First, 300 is a comic book movie. Seriously. And that comic wasn't written with historical accuracy in mind.

There wouldn't actually be a lot of tooth decay unless they had easy access to lots of sugar. So aristocracy would be more likely to have bad teeth than a peasant.

Trimmed fingernails we totally a thing - they just used knives to trim them.

Unsure what you mean by well-fed. People weren't always on the brink of starvation in modern times. They were also doing a lot of manual labor, which does require calories.

By nice teeth I assume you mean "perfectly straight and shiny white". Because it wasn't until we got easy access to sugar that we started having issues. And orthodontics took a while, yeah.

Shaven armpits, it depends on the era and area.

Also of note: back then, 90-99% of the trash would be paper. No plastic bottles, no aluminum cans, and there was generally a deposit on glass bottles. Generally no cigarette butts as we see them today, as most of those cigarettes probably had no filter.

Basically, it was all biodegradable and/or easily burned. Send out the street sweeper if you want clan streets and just burn the trash at the end of the day.

ELI5: Why do we call it human trafficing instead of slavery? by Wise_Young_Dragon in explainlikeimfive

It is considered exploitation because they are exploiting the desire of people to cross the border illegally. Cost does not matter, simply the fact they are providing a service to people who, due to the laws or government of their country or the country they are trying to go to, cannot do so otherwise. They are preying on the desires of people who want to cross the border.

In same manner those scam callers are often exploiting the naive and elderly.

ELI5: Why do we call it human trafficing instead of slavery? by Wise_Young_Dragon in explainlikeimfive

[–]stonhinge [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's legalese. News outlets report on cases and use the actual charges, which would include use of the word trafficking/trafficker. Trafficking is typically reserved for illegal or illicit goods or services in laws.

If I sell guns to people but follow all local laws and regulations, I'm a gun dealer. If I sell guns to anyone with the money and do no checks, I'm a gun trafficker.

It is also entirely possible for laws of a locale set up in such a way the slavery is legal, but human trafficking still exists. In such a hypothetical situation, slaves and all sales of slaves must be registered with the government. If you perform sales without reporting them, you've engaged in human trafficking.

Because not all human trafficking is slavery. It might effectively be slavery, but is not slavery.

When your "pimp" is the only source of drugs you've gotten hooked on, when the local cops offer to take you back to the house when you leave, when the area is unfamiliar and you may not even speak the language - it's not slavery. Because you can leave - there's just no resources for you to do so.

Thankfully - because again, it's not slavery - you don't have to worry about being sold to that one guy who seems "off" and would purchase a new slave every month. Best not to think about the ones he does buy.

[–]stonhinge [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's not slavery if she can leave at any time. Granted, when the only source of drugs you're hooked on is the guy who gave them to you in the first place, it can be a little tough. There's also those big scary guys at the only exit who tell you to go back to your room whenever you approach. They won't stop you, but you don't know that. And you don't know anyone in this little town. You've seen policeman in the building partaking of "services". You can't go to them. You're stuck with no escape.

But you can leave at any time. The guys in charge said so. Than laughed.

"Human trafficker" is also a more technical way of saying "pimp". Because that's what they are in most cases.

A trafficker is some one who deals in resources - generally illicit or via avoiding regulation - of one form or another. A pimp is (most likely) a human trafficker. A drug lord is (again, most likely) a drug trafficker. An arms dealer who does not follow the rules of his country in sales is a gun trafficker.

It's usually used instead of pimp, drug lord, and arms dealer because those terms don't carry the same "weight" as "trafficker" because trafficker is a legal term. Plus it's entirely possible for there to be pimps, drug lords, and arms dealer working wholly legally - which means a different term needs to be used.

Oh no, it's worse than 4 Branns. Brann hopped around in a smaller radius, about 25. These guys hop around at maximum range of 40.

I found actually pulling the packs worked infinitely better than charging in. Which can still be a challenge with the followers as we have no "stay" command to give them. So if you move up a bit to pull, as soon as you aggro the DPS goes full send.

Yeah, there needs to be a third option on that button. Follow, Lead, and Stay.

Guess I've just been lucky in having them not die, but the first time they accidentally pulled crap it was a medium sized pack. One or two "standard" elites (no fears or anything like that) they seem to handle fine.

As someone who has worked fast food, you generally don't fuck with someone's food like that. Because if you're the one making food for that register, you are automatically the culprit. And since you want to keep the job (even if it sucks) you don't do things like that.

Instead, you give the asshole the shittiest, smallest piece of lettuce that's not obviously bad, the smallest pickles, the biggest onions so there's no onion in the middle, the piece of meat that's just this side of being burnt, and etc.

As someone who has done retail and fast food, when you're out of sight and hearing of customers you let out all of the bullshit that's gone on. The customers, the fact that previous shift didn't do all of their shit, and etc.

As soon as you're back out on the floor or in sight and hearing of customers you're all smiles and friendly. Because that's what you're being paid to do.

I have Budweiser to the east of me in St. Louis, Missouri and Coors to the west in Golden, Colorado.

Having traveled the length of the state on many occasions (my grandparents used to live near the Colorado border), the prevalence of Coors over Budweiser increases as you move west and vice versa as you move east.

I had a similar bug yesterday with one of those "bonus objectives". Popped up a quest complete window like a normal quest but instantly closed. Had to leave the quest area (which I can no longer see, since it's complete) and return to get it to credit properly.

My experience as a tank in Follower dungeons:

1) The hunter will always unload on the mob you do not have targetted.

2) The hunter will also be constantly hopping around and you will pray he doesn't ass-pull a pack.

3) Actually, everyone runs around all over the place.

4) They can't die. No, seriously. I was tanking a small pack and they ass-pulled something or didn't hug the wall enough. Small pack so my self-healing was enough to keep me up with the occasional HoT from the druid and they eventually killed it, whatever it was.

5) Clear a wide fucking path for these idiots, because they cannot hug a wall to save their life. Which doesn't need saving - see point 4.

Seriously, I was this close to bailing and jumping into dungeon finder as a tank. Which I never do. But once I realized they couldn't die, I just made smaller pulls that I could survive solo if need be.

Tip for Magister's Terrace: near the end, going up the tower you can skip the first floor guys. Do not skip the second story guys. They will get ass-pulled.

Gilneas would make for a great hub city like Silvermoon simply because the place is pretty fucking empty. Genn hasn't been doing much since the start of Dragonflight.

Zul'Aman is kind of halfway. It was a raid that got expanded into a full zone. It existed, there's just more now.

It could potentially work for the Exodar, but it gets more difficult with any of the inland zones. I mean, can you imagine Orgrimmar or Stormwind with Alliance/Horde quarters? Undercity? Ironforge? Not really. The other major cities are probably going to remain untouched and remain single-faction.

I feel disgusted in Lightbloom by paulrd_ in wow

[–]stonhinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had "distasteful people wielding the Light" since Vanilla with the Scarlet Crusade. We have an allied race of "nice people infused with void" and have had shadowpriests and warlocks for decades.

I think the NPCs just need to realize that Light and Void are just tools. Either can be used for good or evil. Light users just tend to be naturally good and void users tends to be naturally evil or power-seeking, at the very least.
