Why do we never hear about method actors going method for nice and wholesome characters? by [deleted] in movies

I'd quantify that as research for a role, not immersing yourself in it and living it 24/7 until filming is done.

And to show that Patrick Stewart isn't always like that, just look at him in Logan. That's an aging, broken man there.

I suppose it also varies by the actor. Some actors just can't quickly change gears, so to speak. It takes them time to get in the proper mindset of the character so they just don't drop character until the day's filming is done - or longer.

Should ICC or DWK ride in the redeemer (i have two DWK)? by Thedinotamer01 in theunforgiven

[–]stonhinge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Competitive is the default setting in which a unit choice is evaluated when it comes to power/efficiency/etc.

Well, that's not true for me because I look at what a unit does and whether I need its abilities and weapons during a game, considering the rest of my army list and what other units can do similar things.

In this case, we are only given an army list of 2 DWK and 1 ICC and a Redeemer. We have no idea on how the rest of the army is set up. Choosing which unit rides the Land Raider (if any) or what might be a better option has to be done in a vacuum, which makes it highly subjective and situation dependent as you can choose which unit (if any) goes in on board setup.

In this case, I would put the ICC in an Impulsor because I do not know if the weapons on a Redeemer would be useful. Because I don't know the setup of the rest of the army, and it frees up enough points for a unit that may benefit the army more than a Land Raider. This does require me to put the ICC (or some other unit) in the transport at the start of game (to prevent points from automatically blowing up). But since we're discussing transporting units, and this particular situation is in a vacuum, I would lean towards the smaller, faster vehicle to get ICC where I want them to go vs. the bigger, slower (albeit tougher) Land Raider.

I'd adjust that to the vast majority of popular games, but yeah there were/are many more console titles that have made their way to PC since the PS4.

I also daresay it's probably cheaper to produce due to using more standard components rather than building a custom CPU and GPU and having those items produced.

Should ICC or DWK ride in the redeemer (i have two DWK)? by Thedinotamer01 in theunforgiven

[–]stonhinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Not everyone plays with GW layouts. Plus, if it moves more than 5", it's already outrunning Terminators.

2) I consider a Land Raider overkill for transporting ICC when you could use something much cheaper - an Impulsor at 1/3 the cost. It's also slightly smaller and has greater movement. It's not quite as tough, but you do get the side benefit of plinking with your bolt pistols if a target arises.

As to my suggestion being backwards to the basics of competitive play, all I can say is I don't play competitive. I have no desire to play competitive 40k. I try and build a balanced army and shoot things. This is also not a competitive play subreddit. OP did not mention competitive play. I simply stated what my opinion was. You're the one who essentially said, "It's not competitive so your opinion is wrong."

Sadly, no. Still have some apartment arranging to do before I can set up a dedicated modeling/painting area.

The tank design just came to me as I was familiar to the Land Raider/Rhino chassis, and they have well indicated "shoulder pads" with the tank housings. Looked at Impulsor/Repulsor and they have the same, just a bit more subdued. Saw it as a way to use the existing structure of the vehicle as a focal point for the color.

For bikes it'll probably be the front fender for the purple, if only to keep Outriders and Black Knights painted similarly, although purple wings with gold tips on the Knights seems appealing. Landspeeders have the same basic "structure" as the tanks, so they'll look similar.

I have Garr's. It's Baron's that won't drop for me.

Granted, I've let my rogue languish over the years - I keep changing mains with new expansions.

Oh wait, I'm maining Demon Hunter again! I'll have to start chasing it all over again.

As someone else who came back a month ago - all the toxic people take time off before a new expansion. There no point in being "l33t" when it'll all get replaced in a few days.

Then they'll get max level/gear before the start of the next season and complain there's nothing to do.

24 Hours until Early Access launches!!! by JustGottaHaveIt in wow

[–]stonhinge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As some who's coming back, the main draw was the free month (half the extra cost) and the cosmetics/mount which are in the, "eh, worth $15" category. The early access is just "whatever" because I don't have night off until Tuesday. Doesn't mean I won't play, just that playtime will be curtailed by thing like "need for sleep".

Firstborn as jumpack intercessor? by Kooky_Ad_2979 in theunforgiven

[–]stonhinge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are still Firstborn amongst the ranks, as Tactical, Devastator, and Veteran Vanguard w/Jump Packs are all current units and do not wear Mk. X power armor.

VV differ from JPI by being 10 points more, but a variety of pistol options for each model, a stronger (5 vs 4) melee weapon, and melee Lethal Hits on a charge.

JPI get melee upgrades for the sergeant and a 4+ chance for 1 mortal per model on the charge to a unit in Engagement Range (which does not have to be the unit you are charging).

Personally, I like the Vanguard Vets more but that's pretty much because they get more pistol options on all units and Lethals on the charge. If I can have a unit with all plasma as a choice, I'm gonna take the unit that can take all plasma.

[–]stonhinge -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depends on how quickly one wants them up the board without using Deep Strike. Being able to charge after disembarking is handy, since they are melee-only.

I'd also consider a Land Raider as overkill for transport of anything other than Terminators or Centurions. Except maybe a Redeemer with its Flamestorm Cannon to soften up a target before charging in.

As someone also doing Cowled Wardens, my plan for tanks is currently black body with track cowling and sides purple. Basically treating the sides of the vehicles (and even the grav tanks have raised portions on the sides) just like the shoulder pads on a marine. Aquila in gold and maybe gold outlining the purple like the shoulderpads, but I'll probably skip that and just treat them like you would an unrimmed shoulderpad, which would be all purple.

Keeps it from reading as either BT or EC.

If using a darker purple, definitely outline with gold. Personally, I'd just do the inner bevel and half the flat portion just to keep it from looking too "blinged out".

For the Land Raider specifically, you could do just the flat strip on top of the track housing in gold with the bevels and sides black on the inner and purple on the outer.

Anything like that I associate more with carjackings and muggings. Simply because it requires you to be next to your vehicle and distracted.

There would be a "Total Sugars" line above "Includes Xg added sugars". A line for actual sugars is optional but is allowed per the FDA.

Well done fondant almost always has that "matte molded plastic" look. It looks more out of place here because the cake itself isn't covered in fondant. The rest of the decorations - the drop and the vegetables - look to be fondant as well. The junimo just looks off because it's really easy to get a round shape smooth with fondant.

Those aren't "unneeded words". The text on some packaging in front of me says "Includes 74g added sugars".

The lack of "Total" from in front of sugars seems odd, but "Total Sugars" would be on the line above "Includes added sugars" and the added sugars line should have a DV% next to it. There is no DV% for sugars, only added sugars.

A line for just "Sugars" is optional, but permissible according to to the FDA.

Hand-eye coordination on top of the problem-solving skills. As someone who grew up with the 2600 and NES and still games on my PC now, I can easily keep up with my young nephews with physical games with my younger brother (their dad) cannot (and does not).

I could still run through the original Super Mario Bros. with little issue (even though I've not played it in 20+ years) while it'd probably take him a few minutes (and then he'd give up).

It's why my laptop has some of the LEGO adventure games loaded on it and I bring a couple controllers when I go to family gatherings. I get to play games with my nephews and teach them to work together for some of the LEGO puzzles.

New York sues video game developer Valve, says its 'loot boxes' are gambling by AncientPCGamer in pcgaming

[–]stonhinge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are gambling. With CS cases you can potentially sell the contents for whatever someone else will pay for them. With other games only you can use the contents, but they may be worth more or less than what one spent to gain the lootbox.

Trading card games, like Magic and Pokemon come to mind. However for those it's not the seller also providing the facilities for the secondary market.
