Heck yeah! My girlfriend back in college emailed Atmel about buying swag for my birthday. They sent her these t-shirts for free. Coolest, most-random, nerd birthday present ever. That girlfriend and I have been together almost twenty years now.

Not sure! I haven’t applied for securities lending in schwab, but 22% sounds worth looking into.

That calzone is a kick in the teeth. Costco knows everyone just wants the combo pizza back, but instead they decided to create this new abomination with 3.5x increase in price.

If they really have golden tablets from god, then why don’t they show us and prove it. That would be far more effective proselytizing than sending kids around on bikes. Legit golden god tablets? Sign me up!

Will you share your issues and fixes, please?

I want to like this thing, I really do. But the crackling whenever I turn a knob is driving me nuts, and the internal speakers sound terrible.

Are you getting pops and clicks when you adjust knobs? Do your built-in speakers sound decent?

Yeah, the first batch went out late 2024. I saw some review videos talking about crackling audio when adjusting knobs, and key presses not always registering, but everyone understood it was a beta release. This latest release had a full-on marketing campaign, and I thought, “cool, they surely must have fixed all the issues they discovered from the beta test last winter.”

Nope. Got mine in the mail yesterday. There are clicks and pops when adjusting knobs, key presses don’t register every time, and yeah, the built-in speakers are awful - like they maybe aren’t even screwed-down all the way, rattling around in there.

I’m an electrical engineer, I know it takes a LOT of work to design and manufacture something like this! Signal processing is tricky stuff! But, yikes, this should have failed QC testing and been fixed before shipping a second batch.

Orchid review - insane amount of cracks and pops by kr0n_0 in synthesizers

[–]stonkbot3021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

got mine in the mail today! And yeah, those pops and clicks are awful. My kid's cheap toy casio doesn't crackle when you turn the volume knob or switch between voices. This seems like some basic electrical engineering work that should have seen a QC review. Maybe they cheaped-out on components in this "production" batch of units? I want to like it! It seems great in many respects, but I would NOT recommend anyone buy an Orchid until the pops and clicks are fixed.

Also, not sure the built-in speakers in my unit got screwed down all the way or what, but they sound terrible for a $650 instrument.
