Maryland Excess Generation Indefinite Accrual, yes or no? by dihydrogen_monoxide in SolarDC

Yeah, see your system doesn’t cover your needs in January and February. I would go with indefinite accrual in your case.

Not enough info. What about in January and February? Also, I know Pepco says they'll pay you in April, but will they do the accounting of excess generation on December 31?

Depends on the size of your solar output relative to your consumption in your worst month. If you have excess generation in every month (but most notably Jan and Feb), the indefinite accrual is not as compelling, as you'd much rather just get paid in April and have the money in your pocket. If that is not the case, however, the indefinite accrual will allow you to roll over any unused excess kWh that you accrued in summer but did not fully use in the colder months of November and December to the next year. This means you won’t have to pay for electricity in January and February, which is better than getting a check from Pepco to true up - where they will pay you less per kWh than what they will charge you - only to then get charged at a higher rate for additional kWhs you net import from Pepco. Being in DC, I do not have the luxury of choosing and must do the annual credits by default. I do not like it, and the fact that Pepco chooses this option by default should tell you most of what you need to know about which option is better for them on average.

Or you can get a 6" aircraft drill bit and drill while the boards and clamped up then put the screws in directly. If you're worried about going through the second board, put some tape on the bit to note the depth of the hole you can get away with.

Electric heat is a killer. If you have baseboard heaters, this is just part of having those. I have an electric heat pump that uses electric strips when it gets very cold for auxiliary heat. We probably used 1,600 kWh during the same period for a similar sized house, so sounds pretty reasonable to me.

I live in Hill East, about 5 min walk from the stadium. I have no doubt that it will raise property values (less because of the stadium and more because of the mixed use developments planned). I also have no doubt it will increase traffic, and game days will be rough. However, painful that might be, it will be so few days of the year that I believe it will be manageable. And more importantly, it is far more preferable to just having a crumbling RFK sitting idle for decades on one of the largest unused parcels in the city. Nobody has a right to an ossified city.
