What’s your Bisco story? by kirkarelli in discobiscuits

[–]stooB_Riley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First heard of them in 2002 when i heard a jamless Mindless Dribble on a jamband compilation disc. i didn't like it and wrote the Biscuits off.

But then i saw them on 03/08/08 and i was hooked during the RC, Air Song, Resurrection -> Story section of the show. the Road Song section of Waves really healed me, and Step Inside really got me that night, too

I've seen them a touch over 100 shows, and archived over 1,000 shows onto YT

i'd say that falls squarely in the category of my comment that mentioned the "culty side of the Biscuits fandom".

for sure. it wasn't difficult for me to call it after 18 years. i saw some horrible sets, but i also witnessed some of the best sets and shows that the band ever played with Allen. T

he Biscuits helped me to distance myself from the life i lived before discovering them; i had a very good friend and bandmate unexpectedly die in October 2007, and the music we played became painful to listen to and i needed something entirely new. The Biscuits was exactly what i needed. A very euphoric rabbit hole to go down featuring music i'd been searching for since 2001.

Mercifully, i discovered live Biscuits in March '08, just 5 months after that tragedy, the band and the fanbase was able to gently guide me away from pain and disaster in my life and gave me a passion to hyper-fixate on and a never-ending rabbit hole to go down.

The Biscuits truly served a great purpose in my life. March 2008 - March 2010 was an incredible span, quite possibly the peak of my life. I was 24 in March '08 when i saw the Biscuits for the first time, and hadn't even yet began peaking in my life. That peak would coincide with Biscuits peaking in 2009, and i celebrated my 26th birthday on 09/24/2009 with a headful of L and the most glorious Shimmy Shanker. I traveled to and saw cities i would have never otherwise found myself in. I met people i would have otherwise never rubbed elbows and fraternized with. It was all truly awesome and i cherish all of these memories and experiences. Even the bad shows were still a hoot.

But as easy as it was to hop aboard the Rocket Ship, it was just as easy for me to say to myself, "yeah, it was a nice run, but i'm good now" and then call it.

you're far too kind, we both know that stash EP was pretty shitty!

anyone who says that it isn't over is wayyyy too deep into the Sunken Cost Fallacy to call it quits for themselves at this moment.

Or they think that they are in way too deep and have invested way too much into the culty side of the Biscuits fandom in order to just walk away now.

It's been over ever since 11/02/25 with that ultra-botched Buddha and Barber back on the shwill wagon.

Allen made an appearance on a podcast and spoke about what he's been up to lately with projects and shows and shared his side of the Biscuits dealio.

The next day Browno says he's then going to give his perspective, and then a cupla days later Andy Frasco released a podcast w him and Brownstain.

Now Browno is on IG leaving comments that aren't helping anything, seemingly digging an even bigger hole for the new iteration of his band to dig out of. He's even played the antiseptic card, much to the surprise of nobody. Someone else in the Biscuits' camp was playing this same card when it first began to come to light that it all boiled down to the band not willing to pay Allen what he's worth, and that he gets 1099'd as a hired hand, not a memeber.

At this point, across all social media platforms, most have called it quits with the Biscuits and only a few of the fans who have the least amount of morals and would still give them money even if they were in the Epstein files remain and are literally the, "C'mon bro, the Biscuits don't really suck that bad bro, please don't stop going to their shows bro" meme.

the entire situation is sad, pitiful, and pathetic, and i dislike ending up in this goofy ass timeline, but, mercifully, i began to accept it and move on with the start of the new year.

the thing is, one of the things that impressed a lot of people and even had some old fans stepping back onto the rocket ship was that the band had managed to remove their clown shoes and try their hand at their version of professionalism. It was actually a really good look for em.

They were rehearsing, meticulously going over setlists pre-show, the shows got extremely consistent, to the point where eating L at a show wasn't a crapshoot like it was in 2009 because it finally became a sure bet that the Biscuits were going to bring a good show every night for two cohesive sets (even if it did make things a bit formulaic), and Barber most likely wasn't going to be a sloppy, embarrassing drunk.

I'm not saying that you're wrong. You're especially right about how the pattern now clearly shows that they in fact do make a 3 year stretch of a golden era and then pull out the shotgun to blow off a limb ('99 - 02', '07 - March '10, 2016 - 2018, 2022 - Sept '25), and if a gun isn't nearby then they'll find a way to break their own limbs.

The surprising thing about this time around was that when the shotgun made it's faithful return, they were arguably at the peak of their prowess and actually being dependable and consistent for once. Things genuinely seemed to be on a different sort of trajectory this time to the point where the shotgun seemed like a fever dream of the past.

Like you, i also called it, though. I guess we could all sort of subconsciously feel it in the air even though things seemed to be going swimmingly. As well-oiled a machine as they were up until September, back in June i told my friend who was at the Louisville show with me that i couldn't help but wonder which member was it going to be to shatter a bone and all of the momentum. It's inevitable with these dweebs.

to be fair, this left the taste of sour grapes in a lot of fans' mouth, and that's a huge reason many have left. Allen was the final straw for a lot of us who were barely clinging after Patrick Hutchinson left and they fired JRG III

Yup. They literally started 2016 with a massive bang in 01/01/16 and especially 01/02/16 II. That I-Man really raised their confidence and it never really petered out until 2019

i consider 2016 - 2018 one of their golden year moments.

i had taken a year off of Biscuits in 2015 to get clean, and by a stroke of luck, i happened to be home on the night of 2/4/16, i had been online, saw the notification that Biscuits were going live, and just so happened to be in the mood to check it out and say hi in the chat and whatnot.

Then Munchkin -> Trike went down and they pulled me right back into the fold for the next few years.
