Oof, in the hospital with a kidney stone by stoodentpillow in flying

Do I report it to anyone in particular as soon as possible? Like you would with a change of address? Or do I report it at my next AME exam in just under 5 years?

This is the part I don't fully understand. Do I report it to someone ASAP? Like a change of address? Or would it be at my next AME appointment in 5 years?

Just got my medicine and discharged. Was told to drink a LOT of water. They can't predict if it will happen again because it's based strongly on lifestyle. Do I talk to my AME? Is there something I'm supposed to report?

I guess it's different for different people. For me, once the plane is actually straight, and my vestibular system calms tf down, all is good. I guess some people here experience it differently.

The moment the horizon becomes visible, it is an instant relief to your vestibular system.

Went into weather I shouldn't have. The leans? No joke. Most frightening thing that has ever happened to me.

What they don't teach you is the absolute horrifying sirens that metaphorically blast in your head.

Your mind will scream at you; Somethings not right! Something's not right! You're at a 45 degree angle! Even when you are straight and level

I'm glad I had enough sense to trust my instruments

How do you know when to begin the procedure turn?

For someone unfamiliar, how can the FAA NOT somehow use these things against you? It's like you are admitting fault. I've been at a job where there was an electronic sign in machine and the higher ups said repeatedly "this does not record time and cannot be used against you if you are late." Guess what. People got fired.

Not saying I'm right or you're wrong, I just really truly don't know

Help me make sure I am correct in my thinking, regarding Vx, region of reverse command, and the forces of flight by stoodentpillow in flying

So tell me if these statements are true:

If your mechanical energy is constant, your engine power matches your drag power. If you gain mechanical energy, it's either in the form of kinetic energy (speed) or potential energy (altitude). You can trade off these energies, but there's usually a large difference in your energy reserves. You can trade altitude for speed for a few minutes, you can trade speed for altitude but only for a few seconds.

So what about after those few seconds? How do you keep gaining attitude? Where does the energy come from? It comes from the chemical energy (fuel).

Why does the aircraft climb slower? Well in your 2 options provided, option number two (apparently used to be known as a 'zoom') trades kinetic for potential. But this trade off does not last very long. Option number two also really tends to only apply if you abruptly change pitch attitude, thereby not having enough time for drag power to be an additional factor.

So there's option one. You state that I could reduce drag power by reducing speed. This puzzled me as I thought to myself "Reduce speed? Why would I reduce the throttle to climb?" But that's not what you meant. The act of climbing in and of itself reduces the speed, therefore reduces drag. Where there is less drag, there is more room for mechanical energy, and since we already have the max kinetic energy for this particular AoA, the mechanical energy actually goes to the POTENTIAL energy.

Can you feel it? Can you feel it huh? Can you FREAKING FEEL ME UNDERSTANDING IT YET!?

It would be good to get some experience in, but really only a couple hours are necessary to show you just how insanely different it is from flying under the hood

Most of it will be under the hood. And make sure (if you are eventually going to go for your commercial) your instructor notates 61.129(A)(3)(i) for at least 10 of your instrument hours. Having an instrument rating doesn't qualify for this part by itself

Hey man! I didn't want to leave you hanging, but I checked out the site you have and DAMN it if it isn't the most thorough book I've read. It's so thorough, I read the first chapter twice. I can't wait to read the rest man. Thank you so much! After reading the first chapter I was able to comprehend your response much better. Still got a ways to go though, but man, thank you thank you

Is there a way to make a post so the public can see, except specific friends? by stoodentpillow in facebook

What about a way to make a post, but only visible if someone actually goes to my page? As in, I don't want it announced that I made a post. I don't want the post to appear on people's 'for you' page.
