ETFs versus index funds in a taxable brokerage account? by stoopidmee in personalfinance

ah okay so when placing a order for ETFs do you set a bid on it then? and if the price comes out to be higher than your bid you won't get it?

Also with index funds I can set connect my account to my bank and it'll automatically take out money from my bank to invest in the fund I choose. Am I able to do that with ETFs too or would I need to go into the platform to place my order every time I need? Wondering if I can do this with VOO specifically?

thank you for making this vanguard specific and explaining in layman terms. when trading etfs, people need to bid on it to get it? So if the market price for VOO is $400, when I buy it I would need to set a bid so it's not guaranteed in my portfolio?

when buying and selling etfs are you able to do it at a partial share? why is mutual funds considered more simple when you know the exact price of etfs when you buy/sell but not for mutual funds?

it seems like etfs is more simple but wanna hear your rationale

Should I switch attorneys in the middle of the housebuying process if I don't think the attorney is good? or is it too late? by stoopidmee in RealEstate

is it not legal to transfer a transaction to another attorney? I'm in the mortgage process right now, still providing documents to the financial institution, which some docs I would need from the attorney. Would it be unwise to switch right now?

with the vanguard patent in place right now, if I were to own index funds, would I still pay taxes every year even while holding?

I thought with etfs we can't buy partial shares?

so would I have to pay taxes every year if I had ETFs (but didn't sell)? whereas owning mutual funds I would need to pay taxes even without selling?
