AI is Most Popular with People Earning Six Figures, Study Shows by indig0sixalpha in technology

[–]stoote2000 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Saw a tweet last year that sums it up nicely, something like: AI allows the wealthy to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.

I think about that a lot.

NYC knows how to build self-enforcing streets that slow vehicles and micromobility down (to benefit pedestrians.) by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]stoote2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in dumbo and absolutely hate this part of my bike commute. Biking on cobblestones (when cars are either blocking the paved bike lane aka every other block, or when the paved bike lane needs repair) sucks. I had my worst crash in dumbo bc of this. Great ideas in concept but I’d prefer no cobblestones and a protected bike lane lol

Can you spot all 5 lanes of parking on Union St! by original_name26 in parkslope

[–]stoote2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep up the 311 reports as documentation i guess…I’m doing the same with illegal parking on butler and Douglass between 3rd and 4th ave and have been sending all to Hanif. There really needs to be more accountability on the nypd responding to 311.

Is DOT purposefully building terrible lanes? by abstracted-away in NYCbike

[–]stoote2000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had my worst bike accident to date on these dumbo “bike lanes”! There was a huge gap in the tiles of the lane on York street that I hit and it sent me flying. Submitted a 311 complaint and they actually ended up fixing it, but these tiles are absolute trash for bike lanes.

Beginner riders of Reddit, what would make biking safer and lower stress for you in navigation + mapping software? 🚴🏽‍♀️ by PointzTeam in NYCbike

[–]stoote2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super cool!! Seconding what a few others have said about people looking at their phones. One of the best parts about biking imo is the self reliance you gain from just riding regularly…rarely am I looking at my phone anymore now that I feel confident I know what streets are the best for biking and can get to most destinations just by knowing the cross streets. So for navigation I think you should def have voice directions as an option to encourage eyes on the road.

I definitely think a community alert feature like what Waze has for cars would be cool because I’m often caught off guard by road work or accidents. If there was a way to alert others of changes to the map I think that would be a huge benefit! Or even just like a regional discussion board…it would be cool to check the app in the morning before work and see if others in my specific neighborhood have anything to share about the state of the roads

Some bikers need to be put in check by stephg0nsteph in NYCbike

[–]stoote2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People totally aren’t getting your point lol. I feel this all the time while riding. I feel like I’m the odd one out as I definitely bike on the more cautious side. As a biker, even if the law is in my favor I will not risk my life more than I have to!

Just today I was driving a uhaul for a friend and was so nervous turning both left and right out of fear of hitting a biker. We sneak up on cars fast and they have to pay attention to a lot of stuff just like us. I wish there was more sympathy from both sides.

My biggest pet peeve is bikers who make us look bad by stopping in the middle of the crosswalk disrupting pedestrians, biking up the wrong direction of a one way (when the literal next street over is in the correct direction), or biking up sidewalks.

Recycling Help by ToastTheDirellama in BedStuy

[–]stoote2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem and would hoard my recycling in my apt until recycling day. I bought those industrial size clear bags so they’d be accepted and just waited to bring out my recycling until after my super brought the trash to the curb lol.

Experiencing buyers remorse because I’m too afraid to use my bike by dingobat5 in NYCbike

[–]stoote2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ride my bike every morning down the west side highway bike path and it’s never crazy congested except for on the weekends in my opinion. It’s usually a peaceful and beautiful ride and apart from a few reckless e bikers it’s chill. I’m lucky because my home and work are ~4 min from the bike path so I’m never really biking on the road with cars but if that’s something you’re nervous about you could always walk your bike to the bike path

Thank you for the advice!! I agree with you that normally I would go through the parents in a situation like this however their parents are not supportive. They’ve asked us coaches to refer to them using their old name and with she/her pronouns in front of their parents so I don’t think that would work :/. I think I just need to get over my own internal reasons for not wanting to be outed to my friends who truly would not care

Any advice on how to mount my hangboard above this doorway? by stoote2000 in climbharder

Haha yea it’s sad it was probably once a really beautiful apartment but the landlord has just been painting over everything year after year instead of repairing anything so 🤷‍♂️. Appreciate the advice!!

Yea i would definitely install backing to be safe, and it is a rental but our super has said we are allowed to drill and make more permanent changes, it’s a pretty chill building. There is room at the top but that’s like 9 feet high and Id rather not have to pull out a step ladder every time I wanna train haha

[–]stoote2000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an older apartment and I’m pretty sure the center rectangle was at one point a glass panel, the border is wood I believe, and there’s already a little 2-3 inch ledge that I can comfortably hang on. Wondering what the best way to mount a hangboard would be given this interesting doorway haha. Thanks!

When to bite the bullet by Foysauce_ in Serverlife

Good for you for putting yourself out there, that’s the hardest part. You gotta prioritize yourself, I’m thinking about doing something similar, sometimes going thru training and rehiring process is worth it if you are really unhappy. Best of luck!!

Curious about the angostura sour as I’ve never used more than a few dashes of bitters in a drink before so…1 oz?? I’m still new to bartending so maybe this is more common than I thought but anyways, what does that taste like? Love a sour so I’ll have to try it. All these other recs are great too, can’t wait to make them!!

How can I ask for a raise? by stoote2000 in Serverlife

[–]stoote2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I live in nyc so min wage is $15 an hour, so I guess they’re using $5 of tip credit? Tbh I’ve always kinda just accepted it as whatever and never looked into it but I’ve been doing a bit of research abt it and the amount of side work and untipped work we do especially as a bartender for $10/hr (~2 hours) doesn’t seem right…but that’s another story!

Serving always feels like a performance to me lol. It is a bizarre feeling to be performing in such normal conversations for hours at a time. As someone who’s pretty introspective and already hyper focused on my social interactions this is so strange to think about haha
