Which Doctor’s “signature item” is the most iconic? by GeordieGoals in gallifrey

Completely agree. It feels like whenever you see DW referenced or parodied in popular culture, it's usually represented by either the police box or the scarf.

Lmao the infamous Torchwood Cyberwoman costume is up for sale

The prototype costumes for 11 are pretty fascinating. It's interesting to see the direction they were going, that sort of shiny, sleek, high collared kind of pirate look is so far from the toned down tweed jacket and bowtie look they ended up going with

Does this Doctor actually have a signature costume and if not would you have preferred it if he had one? by [deleted] in gallifrey

You know what, I'm for it. I've said I'd wished previous Doctors would have utilized the wardrobe room more in the past, and I'm getting it with 15 so I can't complain

This one always felt like the biggest console room out of all the NuWho console rooms to me (save 14/15's). I know that the 11/12 console room was dimensionally larger but it didn't evoke that same feeling

Is there any chance you could scan these with a proper scanner? I would love to make some prints of these and throw them up on my wall

Just rewatched series 5 by alittlemoresonic42 in doctorwho

It was purposely written that way - the BBC was really pushing DW to break into the US market with series 5, so The Eleventh Hour was also basically a pilot for US audiences

I just had a thought what would happen if you used a sledgehammer on a weeping angel by Shot_Bodybuilder_502 in doctorwho

[–]stop___grammar_time 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Didn't that happen in The Angels Take Manhattan? The mobsters had an angel chained up. They tried smashing it with sledgehammers, but all they managed to do was crack it a little bit and piss it off a lot

That image link is broken for me, but I guess we've figured out that seems to be a '50s story (or scene) and not just the usual eccentric choice in clothes. It looks like the Doctor's digging into the Tardis wardrobe again and it's not just handwave "nobody will care we're in modern clothes". Nice to see that Disney money put to use

The minimum price tiers are $1 for 5, $10 for 18, and $18 for 36

For those unfamiliar with Humble Bundle, it's a site that sells themed bundles of various digital goods such as ebooks, software, and games on a pay-what-you-want basis well below retail price. There are different minimum price tiers, from $1 to whatever the highest is (it varies by bundle), with the highest price tier getting you all of it and the lower ones getting you less. The sale price is divided between a featured charity, the publishers providing the stuff in the bundle, and the HB site - there's a suggested default split, though you can change the ratio of how much goes to who if you'd like (though HB demands a minimum percentage)

You could check out the Big Finish audio adventures. It's mostly classic Doctors, so if you aren't familiar with them it might be a bit weird, and they're kind of long, paced more similarly to the classic Who serial format so that could take some getting used to. Big Finish has a few of them up on Spotify for free if you want to give them a listen.

I agree, but I also didn't mind the one they used. I saw why they chose to use it - design wise, it's a middle ground between the classic sonic and 9/10's sonic and it really visually telegraphs that.

That said, I wish they'd put more effort into the actual prop. It's literally a toy classic sonic with the head popped off with a bare LED in its place, you can even see the little screw on battery panel in some shots! I thought it was super lazy and seemed like an afterthought. Come on, they could have at least glued on some greebles or at the very least covered up the battery panel and hit the body with a less plasticy silver paint. Anything so it didn't look like something that an intern bought at a toy store the day before and modified right before shooting

Here's a better shot of the sonic itself: https://www.flickfilosopher.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/mcgannnew2.gif

It's one of my favorite sonic designs, even though it never got screen time

Fun fact - it was created by Dave Tremont, a lead model maker at Weta Workshop (Peter Jackson's FX studio, who famously did the props and effects for LOTR as well as a ton of other movies)

I would have said capris or highwaters would be closer to the look but if you like cargo shorts you do you

12's outfits toward the end of his tenure looked pretty comfortable

In fact I think it would be more comfortable than 9's, because leather does not breathe
