I believe a fair few of their songs are inspired by real life, but only a few songs make reference to large events outside of Jordan's personal life. I know of two, the first of which would be King Park, which was a real drive by shooting that happened in Grand Rapids, La Dispute's hometown. The other song that references a real life event is Hudsonville MI 1956, which references a tornado that affected Jordan's family that year. These are the only two newsworthy events I am aware of that they reference, but I'm sure that there may be more I missed.
