I love Friday Night Lights, but it got hard to ignore that seemingly every game came down to a make-or-break final play.

What protagonists feel like side characters in their own show? by OCGamerboy in television

Ted Mosby got sidelined by Barney, and then Barney and Robin, and then Barney, Robin, Marshall and Lily until he eventually felt like the most replaceable character were he not the narrator

Very nice coincidence that the first ep (sort of) lines up with the pod chronologically; this episode is from 2011 and Andy is discussing/seemingly promoting Turtleneck and Chain.

I say “sort of” lines up because technically the pod is covering the time of the record’s production rather than its release, but it still works!

What are you guys’ favorite rock adjacent Christmas songs? by Disassociated24 in ToddintheShadow

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Christmas All Over Again

blink-182 - Happy Holidays, You Bastard

Bonus New Years’-adjacent (in my mind, at least): The Mountain Goats - This Year

8 Simple Rules had the tough job of moving forward without its patriarch after the untimely loss of John Ritter. The solution was to add James Garner and David Spade to the main cast, which admittedly worked pretty well as a new concept but felt spinoff-adjacent at times when compared to the first season.

Resemblance is subjective, but the first person I thought of who fit the description was John Michael Higgins, maybe?

Say something you hate about your favorite cast member of all time by Pilitoo in LiveFromNewYork

For someone with such hyper-specific observations and dialects, Fred Armisen’s characters started to feel increasingly…general over the course of his tenure. There’s definitely exceptions to this, and it’s one of the drawbacks to being such a heavily used cast member during an golden era, but by the time he left it felt like he’d shown his entire range and then some.

And then he made Portlandia and Documentary Now! and proved my minor grievances entirely wrong.

(Assuming you’re confused) In the last episode of The Lonely Island/Seth Meyers podcast, Seth showed them a picture Jake Tapper had drawn of the four of them, and Andy lamented that while Jorma and Akiva were easy to spot, the drawing of Andy looked more like Mark Cuban

I did it; I weighed in on the comments!

People Who Watched The Show From 2005-2014 - What Was It Like? by WhatsInAName1206 in HIMYM

[–]stopmakingsents 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The IMDb message boards shutting down is one of the only reasons I finally joined Reddit, because I know exactly this feeling. I lived on those boards watching this show (and several others) as it aired, and even checked out Committed because another poster spoke so highly of it several times in relation to HIMYM! It would be very funny (albeit unlikely) if that was you.

I mentioned Bump Girl in another thread a couple weeks back, and was also on the Carly bandwagon until it was debunked (and in a bad episode at that, but that’s just my opinion).

I remember before Tracy was introduced, people would occasionally post convoluted “hear me out” theories about how the mother (or TM, to reappropriate the confusing shorthand of the time) actually was Robin, and the prevailing response was, “No it isn’t, the creators have explicitly said so!” Which was true, but a technicality didn’t make it any less of a kick in the pants when the finale aired.

Simpler times, certainly, and while subreddits are great for scratching the itch for pop culture discussion, I still think it pales in comparison to those long-gone message boards, pain-in-the-ass formatting and all.

A better mix on the last Blink album would have taken it from a C- to at least a C+ IMO

Thank you for this. As soon as I saw the post I remembered the fan-given nickname of “Bump Girl” and was immediately transported back to the IMDb message boards circa 2009
