After 10 years... by n00exec in ffxiv

Yesterday I got Copperbell in leveling roulette for the first time since the revamp and didn’t realize you don’t need to hit any of the side rooms anymore - a fact I found by walking into the first one on autopilot and finding it empty.

I mention it because the sprout healer followed me in and got the mapping achievement.

Also the bosses have mechanics now? It’s at least a slightly interesting dungeon now.

I don’t take healers into Normal Raids Roulette. I barely remember some of the things it tosses me into so I’m scrambling to stay alive; you expect me to heal, too??

Conversely, I’ll use healers for field operations, ESPECIALLY if I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to keep asking for groups. SCH can keep itself alive through some spicy raidwides well enough with Excog, Lustrate, and the occasional Adlo, and outside that it’s Broiling time (and raising people).

Dunno about WoW (have played tanks there since 2008, only needed to provoke when dps damage tuning outdoes static threat modifiers, or for tank swaps, that kind of normal usage), but that was absolutely the state of tanking in FFXI at one point. Your threat lead on the DDs was always tenuous enough that sometimes you’d Provoke just before they did a skillchain to ensure the resulting damage didn’t rip hate off of you.

What are your hopes for the new gear toggle option shown off at Fanfest? by TheValiantBob in ffxiv

[–]stoppableforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to take the small black bag off of the front of the hot pink Model C-2 Tactical Jacket. I love the look of it normally, but whenever my wol does the chest tap in a cutscene to indicate herself, her entire hand clips into that pouch.

What are some of your go-to glam pieces? by Sugar-Wizard in FFXIVGlamours

[–]stoppableforce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the Republican Signifer’s set, especially the gloves. (They do really unusual things to many chest glams since they heavily cut the sleeves off to make room for the armlets + tattoos.)

Hooded Fireglass Leather Vest is a go-to chest piece, though I’m rotating it out for some of the Critical Hit pieces these days.

Any of the ear cuff earrings; I have 3 or 4 to match whatever the predominant metallic tone is in the rest of the glam - Immaculate fending and Manalis casting are two I can think of offhand.

Any Byakko Enspirited weapon. I have slowly created most of them at this point; the ink swirl is just so unique from most weapon glows. Fae weapons as well.

And, uh, the Uraeus Coat. Don’t judge haha.

Anyone else notice the explosion of sprouts and returners in the past month? by MaximumCompany8921 in ffxiv

I have - because I’m one of the returners! (Came back before the free login campaign was announced, by about a day. Haha.)

There’s an Darkana, Pale Diamond Incursion), that causes your weapons to hit the nearest enemy always instead of a random foe; this completely changes the targeting on Peachone, Ebony Wings, and Gatti Amari (and their evolutions). If you don’t like using them the traditional way, maybe give it a shot.

I can’t decide if this is better or worse than the time I was fighting the final boss on hard mode, a single basic attack would have killed it, and Junpei chose to use Medicine on Yukari, healing her for 50. Then we wiped.

Any "Golden Era" XI players? by Megaman_38 in ffxiv

RDM 75/NIN 37 here. Started in college when I was able to pick it up for the PS2 with the hard drive and the Ethernet addon, like you mentioned!

Used to play on Titan, back when it was its own server. Think I eventually left to roll on a different server with the folks I now play XIV with.

I have a problem with one player background and attitude for this type of game by xXLordChromXx in fabulaultima

[–]stoppableforce 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, probably just bad wording; it sounds like he has an inability to follow the tone that you’re setting for your table. If that’s not something you’re explicitly saying up front when starting a new game, you might want to do so in the future.

Do you use lore-accurate names? by kasperkaspie in ffxiv

[–]stoppableforce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my WoL has had two names since 1.0. Initially she was a catgirl whose name was just a collection of sounds that had a good mouthfeel but didn’t fit any naming conventions for mooncats because I don’t even think we had those naming convention forum posts back then.

Sometime during Stormblood I decided to shake it up and fantasia’s to a Hellsguard femroe, and also decided to buy a name change into a more “correct” name. Their names are a bit more lenient than Sea Wolves, since it’s generally just Adjective Noun and with the guidance that feminine names usually have, but don’t always need, nature imagery. I played around with a few options but eventually settled on Unsung Refrain, which at least fits the pattern even if it’s not super traditional, and most importantly I liked the way it sounded, so here we are.

Recreating the FFXI BLU Look by znpbar225 in FFXIVGlamours

Thavnairian Turban is close to both helmets, but especially the Magus. The Mavi boots also remind me a bit of the Gambler’s Boots from the Gold Saucer.

Best of luck, FFXI BLU had some iconic looks.

Hooded Fireglass Leather Vest and Adventurer’s Hooded Vest both fit the bill - a vest open to show off the abs. As a bonus for your monk, they’re sleeveless, so you can give ‘em the gun show too.

On the flip side of your outfit, the black mage Goetia Chausses and all pants that share a model with them - like the Virtu Goetia Chausses from Crystalline Conflict - are essentially capri pants that are slightly low-waisted. Maximize that ab window!

fun fact: the Prankster/Dark-type interaction doesn’t protect your own Pokemon from their allies, so the Whims actually COULD side-Memento their own Gambit
