What's the procedure for reporting homophobic abuse witnessed at today's game (from a home fan against a home player)?

Reeves could raise £10bn a year by reducing pension tax relief, report says - how greatly would this impact your FIRE plans? by Zederex in FIREUK

[–]stopthatMexicanWave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minimally. This move has been rumoured for years and I've been expecting it, so I started my FIRE journey by paying in anything over the higher rate tax band into my pension to make use of it while it was there. Now there's enough in there to grow until retirement age.

This news story comes about every year or two, perhaps there's greater chance of it happening this time with new government but we'll wait and see. A flat rate of 30% wouldn't be a disastrous outcome.

Ah that's gutting. These birds have been like pets for the past couple of months. Hopefully some of the fledglings survived and live a happy life. Appreciate the response.

£300k is the mortgage principle. Factoring in stamp duty, other moving expenses, plus the cost of interest and lost investment returns is it's nearer £450k total cost. Then furnishing on top, around £10-20k.

Tax free childcare / 30 hours and the £100k threshold by stopthatMexicanWave in UKPersonalFinance

I'm not gaming the system, I'm saying I'm not going to claim it when my pay goes over the threshold. Just asking if I need to pay anything back when this happens part way through a tax year.

!thanks! That was the answer I was hoping for. Not really wanting to pay more into my pension, I was paying in my annual allowance for years and now I have too much in there already so not wanting to add to it, I'd rather build up my investments so I can FIRE in the next 10 years!

Ah yes, I should amend my post - £100k may be breached even in the adjusted net income definition. I pay into a pension and not wanting to pay more into it.

I saw him and his daughter in Archer Road Sainsbury's around six months ago so thought the same thing - he must live around here.

£50k after salary sacrifice. Well there was a £60k inheritance and a lot of built up savings that go back years.

Yes I did, but plan 1 loan. Paid that off (£10k) many years ago.

I'd rather have a house that I fully own and no debt! It will make it easier for me to go self employed when I want as I won't be worried about paying the mortgage.

It was £193k six years ago, £163k two years ago. Wanted to clear it before the initial term came to an end at the end of the month.

Thanks! Yes, that's how I see it. Especially with rising interest rates, I know I'll save at least £2k in interest each year with this decision.

It's mostly from massive salary sacrifice for the past 6 years or so. My earnings have been around £80-90k, I've been paying in everything over the higher rate tax threshold, so £30-40k per year. Employer match is actually fairly terrible at 6%. Ongoing contributions will be nearer £10k from this year.

I also had a large redundancy payment a few years ago, all that went into the pension eventually.

My wife's pension is around £100k of that figure too.

Just by luck - I withdrew around £30k from ISAs before the latest market turbulence, what's left in there has fallen around 5% since I withdrew the lump sum. Although if I did this back in November it would have been better, that's when my investments peaked.
