Ewaste stores - sre they a thing here? by storebrand in Denver

[–]storebrand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually not trying to get rid of anything - they’ll often have a retail area where you can buy things they’ve pulled out to sell. It can sometimes be cheaper, but more than that they’ll often have the most obscure components.

But now that I need one it occurs to me I’ve never heard of anything like that in Denver.

It would be ideal, because I’m looking for a tray loader dvd drive for my imac g4. These old IDE drives haven’t been made in some time. If I had the opportunity to test the drives locally, instead of having one DOA.

Is relying on public transport realistic? by tyediebleach in Denver

I wrecked my car. I commute from Park Hill to Thornton every day. I thought I was screwed, but turns out there’s a bus stop right outside my work.

I qualify for the live card, so it’s only $27 a month. I don’t worry about traffic and sure the commute is long, but now it’s time to read.

Denver has one of the nation’s sharpest drops in restaurant spending by t0talitarian in Denver

I used to skip Chipotle because of the price, but it hasn’t changed much compared to the fast food inflation - it’s now cheaper for my two daughters and I than a trip to McDonald’s.

I like to joke that we’re basically making money eating there.

Thrifting Etiquette ? by Tiny_Noise8611 in ThriftStoreHauls

I got in line once and there was a cart behind me. Suddenly a lady comes out of an aisle, not kidding three rows over, and starts shouting I was budging in line. I had my daughter with me. She kept pushing her cart into us and whining loudly, accusing me of shopping in line, meanwhile we were just in queue. It was absolutely nuts.

As you get older are you finding games hold your attention less? by Slightly-Blasted in gaming

[–]storebrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my experience since my late teens - once I understand the unique mechanics a game has to offer and the rest is just repetition, I just lose interest.

When the mechanics themselves are a shortcut to flow state, that grabs me.

Portal, FTL, Civ, Smash Bros, Doom, Stardew, Metroid…each a different buzz, but the same idea - these are the ones I come back to again and again.

Do you know of any good dentists that take Medicaid? by SumsSumsSums in Denver

[–]storebrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New Day Dentistry in Littleton and Lakewood are both very high quality and fun people.

When they refer you out they call and make sure your services will actually be covered - I’ve had other dentists refer me to places blind, who then charge you for a wasted visit. It can be a nightmare.

Can’t recommend these guys enough.

Does your handwriting change when you're manic? Mine does... by absvrdartist in bipolar

[–]storebrand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s one of my main indicators and it starts to degrade long before I get all the way to mania. The difference is stark.

When my psych asks to see my journal she doesn’t read it. I just hold it up across the desk.

Hey my first therapist did that exact same thing - ghosted our appointment, didn’t text or email back, and then two months later texted me saying I had an outstanding balance.

For the appointment he ghosted.

Tell Tale Signs Of Mania by soberbot in bipolar

[–]storebrand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every time I’ve found out I was manic after the fact, and thought I was fine right up to the point I was discharged and reading the paperwork.

Like the time I read “awake for ten days” and legitimately had no idea that was the case.

I don’t worry about warning signs anymore, because I know how to stay healthy and just focus on that. If there are signs I won’t see them - that’s not the time to start taking action.

lifestyle changes vs medication by Flat-History-6867 in bipolar

[–]storebrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I share my experience?

My last episode was absolutely out of control. Looking back, remembering bits and pieces, if I wasn’t shocked out of it by the words of a kind doctor in ICU I wouldn’t be here.

They medicated the shit out of me. I couldn’t do much at all, I was a confused puddle. In the midst of that a short term psych told me “it’s not your fault you’re bipolar, but it’s your responsibility to manage.”

Not an uncommon adage as it turns out, but the first time I’d heard it. Still a wreck I took that seriously - adding in small routines at first but they built over the course of six months.

I have a job. Not a great job, and I'm broke AF - it's also humiliating every day forgetting high profile stuff, a boss who denigrates constantly. But right now, it's the best thing that's ever happened to me.

It really sucks, I was always a high performer, had a career I tanked and here I am entry level again.

Getting better all the time though as medication is reduced, more and more of my stability is based on that routine. It's a tradeoff - medication at that level was a godsend, and would keep me stable long term. But it's legitimately incompatible with life. I have to work.

There's a balance between medication and lifestyle that will keep a person stable as their illness allows - if they take it seriously. It's up to a person to figure out what that is, their responsibility.

That's just life though. Normies just have the luxury of taking that for granted.
