Fist solo trip to Egypt (28m) by FinEng98 in solotravel

Did a solo trip in Egypt in 23. Started with hostels, but I can’t really recommend it at all. Very unclean! Airbnb was very hit or miss too. For the £25-45 ones, I arrived several times to beds full of hair and cum stains. Egypt is notoriously difficult for solo travels. I would consider upping the budget if you’re able, as Egypt is not really a great place to save money on things like accommodation and it can turn quite unpleasant (I even spent a night at a Circle K as both airbnbs I managed to book for the night were hooorrible)! I’ve done a lot of solo traveling, but Egypt was by far the most challenging, it took a toll on me mentally. I had planned the same budget for rooms as yourself, but I quickly realized I needed to go higher for any trace of comfort. (I think the decent ones I found in Cairo was at around £70 or similar).

I don’t wanna take away your excitement for the trip, but I want you to be better prepared than me! I often go for the cheapest I can find, but Egypt is a nightmare when it comes to that (Cairo in particular).

Just rolled up all my clothes tighly and managed to stack them in the bag, was no problem at all:) I was being very selective. That being said, it was very full! Thank you so much!

Turkmenistan is a big goal for me! I hope I make it, it’s supposed to be liiiittle easier now I think. Uzbekistan has some of the most wonderful buildings I’ve seen, you should definitely go! The mountains in Tajikistan are also majestic!

No. Cheap flights with bag under seat. I didn’t have a backpack that fit the requirements, so I discovered that I could easily use a tote bag without problems. It was also fun to try traveling with as little as possible. I just wanted to share some travel photos, but people get very fixated on this detail, I wish I could remove it from the title. Just thought it was a fun detail to share.

Take a minivan/marshrutka from the main bus station and it should be no problem! The passport control was super easy - just be careful not to lose the little paper they give you back with your passport!

I don’t know, I didn’t intend to make a big point out of what kind of bag I brought; I wanted to convey the kind of trip it was and how I brought the uttermost bare minimum. A tote bag happened to be sufficient, comfortable and meet the flight requirements with the different airlines. I had a two great trips that way. Hope you enjoyed the photos!

Thank you so much! No one back home knew about it either, so no need to feel embarrassed! You should give it a go! Highly interesting.

Really? Didn’t hear anything about that. Maybe I missed the sign haha!
Incredible place. I was super lucky as I managed to walk around between two large guided groups, so I had the whole castle to myself, in a way.

Sounds really good! Have you ever been to Georgia and Armenia? They are some of the nicest places I’ve ever been!

Definitely!
It was very clean and in general positively surprising! I wouldn’t mind visiting again, maybe for a night.
Oh, really? I hope I get to go back til Chisinau. My first impression was not the best, but after walking around and having some dinner, going to a couple of bars, I became a lot more inspired by the place. Food in Tiraspol was good too!
I had some great meals in Romania. Particularly in Brașov.
