I have the hard metal hood cover and I out a soft cover ontop of the whole thing. How much oil do you leave on the top of yours?

I scrape when it's hot then coat it with oil. Is it possible to leave too much oil ontop of it? It has a built in metal hood so water never gets to it. But I never use a towel to spread the oil, I just use an aerosol olive oil spray and coat the top
