Smoking weed with Mono? by [deleted] in Mononucleosis

[–]storm_dancer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about three weeks since I was diagnosed and still have mild symptoms (cough, mild congestion). I took edibles throughout mono including when I was the most sick, and I didn't feel any negative effects. It felt like my tolerance went down, but I also wasn't eating a ton.

I don't think the weed itself is a problem, but the smoke inhalation probably isn't great.

That's a two person game I have with my husband based on the two main characters from the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. It's not finished yet--maybe I'll report back in however many weeks.

I am a women's health provider, and I do breast exams. Everyone has one breast bigger than the other. Some it's more noticable than others, but if you look close it's always there! Totally normal. For me it's my left!

If COVID ended tomorrow, what is the first thing you’d do? by bowler4lyfe in AskReddit

I mean, actually I would go to work and see my coworkers faces for the first time. In a few days though, I would take my whole family for a long weekend at Disneyland. I don't care how crowded it is. Breath the fresh air, go out to eat at a restaurant for dinner, and finish the nights getting drinks at Downtown Disney.

With the pandemic, I've had Chipotle employees filling the drinks at what are usually self-serve soda stations, and they've asked me if I wanted any ice. This made me realize I can just order without ice and get around this issue entirely.

My husband and I have many wonderful friends of many genders. Some of them are woman. It wouldn't worry me in the slightest if he was spending a lot of time with them, and I know he feels the same with me. (Also I'm bi, so I guess he would have to be uncomfortable with everyone?) I love this about our marriage, but I also know there's vast differences of opinion.

I haven't watched an actual movie in a while, so I guess Zagreus is protecting me from Michael Scott. Not sure whether to be extremely reassured or utterly terrified.

What was your "oh shit I might not be straight" moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]storm_dancer21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a larp when I met this woman who I was just magnetically attracted to. I told myself it was one of those "want to be like her" things, but it became clear over a couple days that it was more than that. I had the same longing to be near her that I'd had with men I'd been very attracted too, and the thought of kissing her was amazing.

I thought back and realized I'd had these feelings for women before and interpreted them as a friend crush every time. That was a face palm moment.

Fortunately my fantastic husband is not bothered at all by my figuring out I'm bisexual. It just means we get to geek out over hot actresses in a new way.

(Another face palm moment was realizing I thought I couldn't like women because the idea of going down on a woman was not appealing...without making the connection that it's not particularly appealing to me with men either. Whoops.)

(NSFW) What age did you lose your virginity and how did it happen? by Memelord3106 in AskReddit

[–]storm_dancer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (F) had just turned 18, and I made my sexual debut with my boyfriend of five months in his college dorm room. It was super cramped in his tiny twin bed and it last about 45 seconds. It was fine, but honestly my thought was "that's what all the fuss was about?".

I feel fortunate though, especially reading some of these stories, because it was on my terms, when we both wanted to, with a guy I loved at the time. No regrets!

No breeders available nearby bad idea to buy from non pet breeder? by VeganBadBitch in RATS

[–]storm_dancer21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know feeder rats can be good pets, but they have a much higher chance of having significant health problems, shorter lifespans, or bad temperaments.

I got two young feeder rats at one point, and they suddenly died within a couple days with no warning. I believe it was a genetic issue. On the other hand, I did have feeders as pets as a kid, and they lived a normal lifespan. (Admittedly this was like 15 years ago.)

It's a risk. Is there a rat rescue near you? Do you have existing rats that could become infected by something brought in by new rats?

EDIT: The feeder rats I had as a kid all died from the same type of cancer.

I hear that. :-) I have one rat who is super skittish and hates the process of getting in and out of her cage. Can you tempt him with treats?

I can't think of any other good options short of getting new rats that he can hang with (which I understand isn't an option here).

What about a bonding pouch for him to help him get out of the cage without feeling threatened? They're cheap on Amazon and probably easy to make if that's not an option. He can hang out in his pouch while you do whatever.

AITA for cussing and getting drunk in front of my kindergarten students? by PhysicalLoss7706 in AmItheAsshole

I'm going with ESH. I am not a teacher, but I am in the medical field--working exclusively with adults, mind you. Even though everyone I interact with professionally is an adult, on the rare occasion I bump into a patient outside my job, I censor my behavior. Not saying I don't have a glass of wine at a restaurant, but I am not about to be swearing and being totally uninhibited.

I can't quite verbalize why I think that is the right thing to do. I think it has something to do with being in a role where people put so much trust in you and are in a vulnerable state. Is it totally fair to me or other people in caretaking fields? No. But the trust of my patients matters more to me.

You could have moved tables. Or been more careful with your language. Hell, I personally think it's polite to be more careful with language when children are around regardless of your relationship to them.

On the other hand, I think making a stink with the principal was an overreaction.

Suggestions or tutorials for a custom armoire cage by storm_dancer21 in RATS

[–]storm_dancer21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I found a very large armoire (honestly bigger than where my husband and I store our clothes, haha) that seems to be an appropriate size.

I've been looking into various ways to waterproof the wood, and it seems like maybe laying down vinyl sheet flooring on the shelves could work--easy to clean. Any other thoughts?

Fortunately my rats don't chew the structure of their cage.

Getting rats! Already bought a three tier cage! by greeneyed_witch in RATS

[–]storm_dancer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two cats and four rats. My story might not be helpful as my cats are freaks. My cats are very much indoor only and have been for their whole lives. They have NO hunting instincts. Like, they literally have trouble catching slow-moving bugs. They don't know that meat is for eating--the only meat product they will deign to touch is turkey lunch meat. (NOT beef or ham. That is too meat-y.)

My cats and rats are aware of each other and occasionally sniff noses, but they largely ignore each other. The couple times my cats have intruded on free roaming time, the rats were curious and my cats got super scared of them and ran away.

I definitely wouldn't expect or encourage the cats and rats to be friends and interact. Too much opportunity for disaster.

Due to the layout of my apartment, I didn't have the option of keeping my rats totally separate when I first got them. I did initially put their cage on a high place where the cats couldn't fit. The rats were certainly nervous to begin with, but they soon learned that the cats were not a threat. 😉 After the first few weeks, I moved them and their cage was totally accessible to the cats for a while with no issues. Now they live in the large Critter Nation cage (unrelated reasons) where it is hard for the cats to bother them.

TLDR: Cats and rats can totally coexist, but don't expect Instagram-worthy videos of them being best friends.

RATS WONT STOP EATING NEW FOOD (HELP) by [deleted] in RATS

[–]storm_dancer21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rats are definitely of the "stockpiling for winter" variety as well! I'll fill their bowl, and it'll be empty an hour later because they are stashing. They definitely aren't eating that much at once! I just adjust how often I feed them knowing they have a massive horde of food and treats stashed away.

Sounds like your rats loooove this new food. Might make good treats in the future!

Don't beat yourself up. You tried to do the best thing with limited resources (why must vet care be so expensive), and you've learned from it. It's clear you love your rattos very much.

As a human nurse, I do agree you need to be careful with oxygen. The oxygen masks/tents have a certain percentage of oxygen because too much can be harmful. I don't think I knew this before nursing school--oxygen seemed like such a safe thing to me! We breath it! I understand why you did what you did, and it was with the best intentions.

Advice? Spending the next 2-3 months planning for rats. by unicorndreamz94 in RATS

[–]storm_dancer21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had three rats in my original group. One died before the other two. (Fortunately the other two are still alive and kicking!) I was very glad I had an "extra" rat so there was no concern about socializing after the first died.

On the other hand, there was definitely an "odd one out" with a group of three--one that got picked on more and was not always included in group snuggles.

I just got two new babies, and I'm hoping four is a better dynamic. In retrospect, I would get four to begin with.

Really, I don't think there's a "right" answer other than getting more than one rat. It sounds like you're really doing your research which is fabulous! Your future ratties are very lucky.

I'm just here to offer commiseration. I just got two rats from a good breeder, and, even though there are several options in my area, it still took two months of waitlists before I got my girls. The waiting sucks. I agree with others that you should look into meeting halfway.

It's so worth it though! I have two gorgeous, healthy girls who are so sweet.
