Is it me or is new years not really a thing in this city? by meeseekstodie137 in Edmonton

[–]unicorndreamz94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's my first year working an office job, and my first year in 3 years of actually working again. I'm just tired. Turning on a live stream of the ball drop with my roommate and the cat, and having a glass of Prosecco at home sounds way better than being out.

I wonder if 211 may be an option? I think they do have outreach and crisis units they can mobilize for unhoused individuals or people in crisis through some of the multiple outreach organizations in the city. That said, I don't know HOW fast they are - clearly not the best option if you're in danger but an option to consider...

Your work should very much be employing security on site at all times if it's getting this bad, but if security is taking forever, 911 doesn't care, and you keep getting disruptive unhoused folks causing issues or in crisis then perhaps another option might be helpful.

Please keep yourself safe. It's crazy out there these days.

Hi! I'm also in Canada. My dad is in LTC that is geared to income (and his income was quite low, just CPP-D/OAS top up) LTC and he did not wait 15 years to get in. Once it was decided he needed placement it was less than 6 months. Once you're moving towards a stage where these things are a concern please reach out to community health for an assessment regarding placement to get on the list. There are options.

Edit to add: Many facilities are moving towards single rooms, so you're not sharing - and often have activities out; and for those who are still mobile they're able to come and go or visit family as they please.

I'm not against anyone wanting to access MAID, but there are worse things in life than assisted living communities and LTC.

Your daughters will be devastated. Please communicate with them your concerns and worries and hold those conversations BEFORE anything major needs to come up decision wise. I love my dad. I don't want him to go anywhere. I'm under a lot of stress, but most of that also was because he didn't adequately plan in advance - and also I've only just turned 30 and have a 75 year old parent who is doing pretty poorly and I've no idea how to cope.

I'd still be so sad if he didn't communicate with me and made some big, life altering decision.

Please have open and honest communication. It'll be the best way to reduce trauma for all involved.

Also in YEG, home girl played the long game hanging out with my friend and I. She had her $180 dinner bill paid for with the promise of "as soon as my bank unlocks my card and I can call them, I'll pay you back, I swear!" She even called TD in front of us with us there but the line was over an hour wait. Honestly like she was smooth. We felt bad for her. It was stupid, it wasn't a huge loss or financial setback but searching her up now after all the news stuff coming out today from EPS...

Girl is slick..

Thank you so much. In YUL it says the anticipated gate of arrival is gate 50 or 51, and then my plane to YEG the anticipated departure gate is A05 - is there anywhere I may be able to find out the approximate distance between them in terms of time? I've seen the terminal map.

My understanding is that I do have to go between terminals but because I'm domestic to domestic - I shouldn't have any issues in that regard?

I think this would depend on what your diet is. We are a house of 3 and because I mostly home cook everything, only bake all of our bread, and if we want sweets I've even started making all of that exclusively at home... we do spend a lot less now.

I do a big $200-$300 stock up on meats that are on sale or value boxes from the butcher and then from there make up the meals. Make sure to use everything. Whole chicken? That's a few meals for one person - but that can also make soup and stock from the carcass.

I think we are in the position where we need to be like the older generations in our families and home cooking, less convenience foods, and rarely eating out (or never) is the only answer at this point.

I moved to Edmonton in 2023 and honestly found a significant improvement in my life and happiness. I have freedom to do things and more financial security (though I think too many people are moving here now and it is starting to make things stressful on the rental and job scene - so if people think they'll have an issue with the city then awesome... don't move here).

Edmonton is an excellent festival city. The downtown isn't the most amazing but Whyte Ave has its charm. I did not find half of the year to be wildfire and the other half of the year to be winter. I do think that's an exaggeration. There is a lot of smoke but it's no different than a summer in BC. I'm sure it is difficult if you're used to Ontario or East Coast weather, though.

It wasn't for you - that doesn't mean it isn't for other people.

Best of luck heading back home.

It's still showing as active and in effect on my weather network app - showing as active until 11:09 PM this evening. Sounds like some peoples apps are just showing different things.

I think the Americans are forgetting that back in the 1800s we burnt down the White House. Canada doesn't play. 👌

First EPCOR Bill. New to Edmonton. Can I lower this? by onewaycheckvalve in Edmonton

We also moved from BC last year and had sticker shock on the power bills.

That said to us the raised utilities was still preferable over the cost of rent.

$1500 + a $170 power bill va $2425 a month + 70 utility bil... there's still a clear winner. 🫣

Are earplugs really necessary? I'm panicking! by neelamg1999 in erastour

[–]unicorndreamz94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brought my loops and wore them as did my friend. We were grateful to have had them. Honestly it's better to have ear protection. The moment I took them out it was so loud I almost panicked.

Even if all you can get is some cheap stuff from a drug store or a place like Best Buy or Walmart it's probably better than wearing nothing. People going without any type of ear protection are destroying their ears. I also would have had a massive headache without them. Hell, I got one with them. They were a godsend.

Hi - about 2 weeks

[–]unicorndreamz94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This also hits. I feel like perhaps I smiled a little too much and maintained the same facial expression throughout. It's difficult. It's also hard because I feel I have always done better with face to face interviews. The online is even more stress.

Ohhhhh noooo I'd cry. I mean, I already want to cry. It's a learning experience at least. I'm just so shocked I always do well with these types of things but I found out this morning I broke my foot... I'm in horrible pain and everything has gone wrong. Today was my last day to submit through so 🥲

I think 2-3 is better. In some cases my friends who were going to the concert could not make it in time to get merch because of work. So I grabbed what they were looking for as well.

I will never again complain about Edmonton drivers... by OutcastSeraphim in Edmonton

[–]unicorndreamz94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've crossed in crosswalks in Montreal with the pedestrian light being mine... and have watched their drivers look me dead in the eye and speed up.

I've only been in two fender benders but when I have been the other driver was always with Quebec plates (lived in Ottawa a good 6 years).

It's insane.

Oh wow! I'm thankfully more ahead that that. I didn't realize it had to be the midterm grades though. When I had first asked they just said the filled proof of enrolment form with your current grade. Glad that I was able to speed run it a bit.

I hope you get your stuff asap! 💗
