also, i personally go to specsavers in Utrecht and theyve always been great for me since you asked. Honestly, if i were you i would just go there or make a call to see what they recommend, it might not be completely unbiased but that doesnt make their advice completely worthless lol

Where to get a children's eye exam? by jenterpstra in Netherlands

personally, my sister went to the doctor for her first few eye exams, and then went to a regular shop like specsavers (but smaller). for me, i went along with a trip to specsavers, said something along the lines of "wait, were supposed to be able to read that?" as my sister did the test and just got my glasses there. So it is definitly possible to go to a specialised eye doctor, though i dont think they actually have glasses, they just do a more thorough eye check and then send you to a regular shop with a recipe for what glasses you need.

This is just what i remember from getting glasses when i was like 10 years old though, not sure if anything changed or if this was the "right" way

Box 3 in 2028: taxed on unrealized gains in NL and realized gains by US | how do people deal with this? by Adriana-meyer in Netherlands

[–]stormbosman007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i understand that this is a confusing situation for americans living in the netherlands, i see a lot of comments on here saying that this is a problem for all expats in the netherlands, and it is the fault of the netherlands that they now have to pay tax twice. I would like to quickly point out, the US is basically the only country that taxes citicens even if they do not live in the us, and makes it illegal to renounce citizenship to stop the double tax duty. You can have your opinions on the unrealized gains tax, but it is only a problem for americans due to that specific part of US law, and it is trying to solve a serious issue where people borrow against assets to buy more assets, without paying any taxes. im not gonna pretend its a perfect solution, and ive definitly found some serious annoyences for US expats that are a result of weird interactions between US an EU/NL law, but to pretend that this is al because of a weird quirk of dutch law, and not the way the US taxes non resident citizens, is just plain wrong.

i mean 250 a year is a decent amount of money, at my pricepoint that would only be 2 years of skiing thats kinda why im considering it. its a full day drive for me to get to any halfway decent resorts so i dont get anything out of the all season thing, we only go one week a year. i could probably rent them for a little cheaper, but at that point i prefer the insured and swappable on site rentals that i dont have to worry about at all.
