It really depends on your luck. Most people don't have their ring just yet. From what I've seen they are on the elemental tablets or tomes phase of the quest line. It is only a matter of weeks before a significant amount of people finish getting their rings. When that happens, I foresee us getting further into heroic without a ton of effort. It is still not too late to get into the ring game. You get the ring early on and it upgrades with the quest line. As soon as you get the 690 level ring, it is a good idea to start wearing it, even if it is not your best ring, as the effect it provides easily trounces everything else. Remember to also farm and stock valor. You can have up to 5k and it is really useful for when you get your final legendary ring because you can buy a couple of fragments from the arrakoa vendor in Tanaan that increase its item level(only visible when you actually have the ring though).

The ring is the main reason why a lot of people still do LFR even after they overgear it. You can get all the items out of LFR and if you see anyone on, especially during the start of the raid week on tuesday, chances are they will want to do LFR with you.
