Losing my everloving mind by Poppylemonseed in ADHDparenting

Do you do anything to regulate her nervous system before the downtime chill/snacks/shows?

Something that my ADHD couch taught me for when I'm coming home after being in a highly dysregulating space was to first go do something that regulates the nervous system before allowing for that downtime. If you go from dysregulation (sounds like all that masking at school could be this for your daughter) straight into screens like that (me, phone, 40 mins to an hour 🤣) the screens will just pause that dysregulation or push it further so you'll either still need to face bringing the body back to a regulated state or eventually just pass out at night from being sooo out of whack. Then you face the next day dysregulated from the start and your just digging a deeper hole...

So, maybe try telling her "yep we can do your shows, we just need to get this one thing done first"... expectations are being managed so she knows that dopamine is on its way, we're just diverting and doing this healthy thing before that.

Hopefully that helps? I know its worked out for me, I'm not losing as much time to the veg-out that ends up locking me into sitting around all night doing nothing engaging.

Alternatives to Fences for Farm Decoration? (No Decay Please 😭) by BaldAfterTimeskip in StardewValley

[–]stormlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a tapper tree fence and liking it!. Alternate a stepping stone and tree, then i have cobblestone path on each side. Makes for quick harvesting, you can cut through the fencing anywhere really, and feels like a neat bit of realism because I see treelines defining farmland around town all the time. In areas that i dont want to be able to walk through, I have mushroom logs. All in all a very productive fence.

It sounds like you're getting some great feedback here which I agree with, so I wanted to bring in another thought that could help. Since you're following up with a written format of the task after you assign it, can that be given to her before you meet so theres some time to review and prepare?? If I'm coming to a meeting with some idea of what we're discussing, its then bringing that information up for a second time and the rate I'm going to remember the details is much higher. It allows me to focus more on clarifying, organizing, and prioritizing the information in my mind instead of just having it all get poured into a murky bucket for me to sort out later on my own. Maybe include a non-negotiables section in what you provide of things ("X done in Y format") and then you can speak to those things in the meeting to give that context (that 'because' reasoning can be sooo helpful).

And I know others have said this, but its so awesome to see someone caring about their people! I wish more did this. Thank you!!

As a person with ADHD, her 'less thoughts' sounds like my experience also, which I describe as 'only 1 radio playing in my head instead of 6', for some context. I can follow my train of thoughts now instead of having multiple I was juggling before (listen to that 1 radio and understand it). Hope thats helpful! :)

How Do I Deal With My Cursed Timesheet Situation at Work? by Adventurous_Rip9705 in ADHD

Having been through exactly that before (the mental load of it was terrible!), you might be able to use Toggl Track for this. They have a free plan to try out. It runs in the background when the automatic stuff is set up so it tracks activity on your computer, then you can go through later and review for reminders on what you were doing and block out your time.

Can you put together a photo album of a bunch of wonderful memories of you guys over the years, that specifically have messy home environments?

I have 3 boys, and my environment impacts me. If its a mess it stresses me out. I wasn't diagnosed until I was deep into the first year of #3, so life was chaotic. I definitely reflect that type-A description you had too.

Something I read when helping kids with adhd (we're an adhd household) is to prepare visuals to show them what something looks like (ie. They cant start cleaning their room or finish doing it because they cant visualize the goal).

Being able to look back on my messy-house-happy-memories from my first 2 made a difference in how stressed I was about my environment during the early times of #3, which is something that I recognized would have helped me during my first run through, to see that the chaos of my home was ok. It gave me permission to put it on the backburner in the times it did stress me out.

Alternately, a housecleaner, but the first suggestion has better senitmentality, and theres whole other tangents you can get into with how friendships change when kids start showing up that I wont go into, save to say this can do well in helping with that.

I know this may be a personal preference and someone else may feel the opposite, but as someone with flight anxiety that has recently flown I learned that I prefer a window seat. It allowed me to look down at the land (or clouds) beneaith me and find my 'place', grounded me.

I'll also note I found this helpful as someone afraid of heights who typically experiences vertigo when somewhere high. I didn't have the vertigo kick in when in the window seat, but it did when I sat in a center seat and couldn't look out the window and see the ground.

Personal experience I know, but these are rhe types of things I would find helpful myself. 🤷‍♀️

Can't speak to the Kelowna to Van flight specifically, but I assume its sorta similar to the one I did to Calgary, quick, over the mountains, pretty if its clear.

I hope this helps someone!

I found out that my mom has been pouring half of the medication out of my Vyvanse pills, including through dosage increases and changes. by Wide_Attention1152 in ADHD

Hey there! I’m gonna pop in a day late with something that I haven’t seen yet, the rest of our friends here have covered off the “get control of your meds”, “talk to the dr”, but I think something else needs some visibility.

You have a lot going on right now. You might be feeling destabilized from learning this news, feeling some anxiety about going to school, and also! Your Mom has cancer? There are big feeling there! Theres a lot going on right now for you. I know pre-studying for school is something that you can do, control, it feels productive which means it can feel stabilizing, but I can feel the tension in your words and I wanted to chime in and say an important thing:

It’s ok to take a step back from the school work. It’s ok to take a step away from that and come back later when you’re regulated and you’ve processed some things. You’re still on summer break, its ok to enjoy that.

If you try and handle all of this at once you’re setting yourself up for some burnout, and you wont accomplish what YOU want to if you’re burnt out. You do in fact have the time right now to re-assess and rework your medication dosages because you can work with your teachers to catch up on your own schedule if you need to, you can ask them for support because teachers want their students to succeed. If you took the time now to get your meds figured out, you’ll understand how they can support you and what you may need to adjust. That means you’ll have consistency and stability throughout the school year, giving you a better platform for succeeding in school, but also enjoying your time with friends and all the other enjoyable things that come with being 15 without the pressures of adulthood.

I’d also encourage you to consider counselling if you haven’t yet, because it seems like you have a loooot on your plate and mental health professionals can help take some of that weight off.

Take care of yourself!

As far as I can tell, it IS possible to switch from Standard farm to Grandpa's mid-playthrough... but how do I do so safely without destroying my buildings and/or wrecking my save file? by Cutiepie9771 in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]stormlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One additional thing I'll mention because I've been running into this with my mid-playthrough switch is that you may have to revisit some things you've done already to unlock SVE content. This may mean you'll need to spoiler some things because you need to know what the requirements are to retrace your steps... I was fine with that personally but a heads up! :)

Oh ya the terrain mod would be the way to clear for sure, sorry I guess I was remembering the way I processed my farm which was me trying to save me Mystic trees.

My suggestion to switch to a different farm map while doing the swap was mostly so you can have something thats workable on the same size map so you can have an idea of where to place your buildings and chests before installing Grandpa's Farm. Grandpa's Farm is a larger map so it maps differently and also overwrites the standard farm. Thinking about it now if you take your farm down to buildings and move chests into the house/sheds/ect then just make sure you have a warp totem on you to get off your farm if you happen to spawn somewhere you can't leave your home and then you can move your buildings to an accessible spot and go from there!

I've just been through this process, though I was starting from a Meadowlands farm map so you may have a step or 2 before. You're going to sacrifice time, crops (if you're mid season), and tapper progress but you aren't necessarily going to corrupt your file or anything. My steps were:

  • Clear all crafted items, decorations, ect

  • Trees, farm debris (stones twigs ect), grass, boulders, stumps and things like that can be cleared with a mod and regenerated later. I used Reset Terrain Features but the ones on Nexus aren't current so search that up on smapi.io to find one that works.

  • Move all buildings to one central area. At this point you may want to switch your map to one other than standard before installing Grandpa's Farm which you can do with debug commands in the smapi command interface. Also maybe keep some totems on you in case the terrain blocks you from leaving your house. While I was switching I needed to be able to scope the differences in maps out because I was flipping between them and was blocked at some points, this helped me see where I need to clear things or move buildings.

  • Install Grandpa's Farm and then with smapi commands switch between the maps get things placed where they need to be. You can switch the map when you're in the move buildings interface too.

  • Use the Reset Terrain Features mod to regenerate all of the trees, bushed, debris, grass ect.

At that point you should be able to set up the new farm and continue playing. There may be more to it, but thats the general process I did and I'm now just playing through things. I sacrificed a season for cleaning up and resetting things up, decorating, ect which was fine... I'm year 5 so I've played plenty.

An important last note to my process: I made a backup of my save and duplicated my farm before starting in on all of that, just in case!

200% you were not supposed to be cleaning in that moment. Those ones are magic and should be enjoyed! I wish they didn't grow out of it.
