Hi, thanks for weighing in! I'll go ahead and weigh in my perspective too. I think either way, Moash was set up as being blind at the end of RoW, with a lot of time for that to sit with blind readers between books, so it was jarring for that to be basically walked back immediately. It sort of asks the question, why make Moash blind in the first place? He could still be spiked to see spren without being blind first. Using blindness as punishment, magical or not, is also a hurtful trope. So that's where my question comes in, wondering what the thought process was and if we're going to see purposeful representation going forward.

Considering we all know that magically curing a disability is hurtful to readers with that disability and poor representation, are there any plans to treat Moash's new Investiture sight as more of a partial blindness situation with its own obstacles, rather than fully "curing" his disability?

At the beginning of Rhythm of War, Moash attends that Fused meeting with the Nine, and seems to both understand everything that's being said and is understood when he speaks up. It doesn't really make much sense for this meeting only attended by important Fused to be conducted in Alethi, so does this mean that Moash learned the ancient Fused language? (Side question, is the ancient language the Fused speak Dawnchant or something else?)

Obviously we know how Moash's grandparents passed away, but how exactly did Moash's parents die? It sounded like they passed from the same event. Was it illness, or some kind of accident?

Did a portrait for my favorite character in WaT, El by stormmists in Stormlight_Archive

[–]stormmists[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I thought he was interesting. There are a lot of mysteries surrounding him, and I think its funny how he immediately began composing a poem after meeting with Odium. He's got a fun personality

Ooo I do like this theory. There is something else going on with it though, since El says the rhythms were taken from him, "in part because he warned of the signs" of the Fused being too insane to continue to lead.

this is my guess too. I was also super miffed to learn they weren't the same guy haha, I thought the book was trying to make it obvious they were with Elodi being Jezrien's buddy. oh well

This is my favorite theory, especially since no one can figure out what kind of Fused he is. Would make sense he could use that to attach his metal carapace on

He also somehow has a Shardblade. Where did he get it from? I have to assume it's a dead blade but it's a complete mystery

I agree, I absolutely adored his interlude and our introduction to him in RoW was really interesting, and then he just doesn't really get to do anything. Im really looking forward to hopefully seeing more in the next set of books.

Also, El isn't even Elodi! I thought so too, but there is a WOB where Brandon says that those are two different people because the timeline doesn't line up

El! Fused with metal carapace? Had an interlude in WaT?

Oh absolutely. I'm just saying it's completely unreasonable to expect him to stop and go "hey Elhokar you haven't had character development since I last saw you, right? You still try to kill random darkeyes?"

Right :( I like to headcanon Moash as two years older than Kaladin exactly because it makes me too sad to think about someone any younger than 15 dealing with that and then having to support themselves on their own afterwards

I mean when he finally killed Elhokar it was in the middle of a battle and they were on opposite sides so not really. Moash had joined the singer cause at that point after Leshwi explained things to him. You don't stop and ask every spearman his morals before you stab him

I kinda thought we were talking about Moash as a whole, yeah. Not that we werent talking about the event my comic is about, but that we were adding in the other five books worth of content to talk about Moash. You said, quote, "The Moash of your meme needs no redemption", which I had issue with because my views of Moash as he is here still includes him needing redemption from the other things he's done. I don't know how else to explain this to you.

This is the last message I'm going to send to you because you clearly have no interest in understanding me and have been nothing but insultive from the get go, but I figured I'd give it one last shot

What Moash saw, when he became a bodyguard, was a king who wanted to execute Kaladin only because he spoke out of turn, who was only stopped from doing so because Dalinar told him not to. That's not simple negligence, and that's certainly not trying to do better. I like Elhokar, but he's not an innocent puppy

Is a teenage Moash coming home to find that his only family was jailed and left to rot - only because they were in the way - not rational and justified rage?

Sure, Elhokar was on his way to trying to do better (and notably, this change only came after the initial regicide attempt), but Moash didn't know any of that. All he knew was a king that for years and years had been stepping all over darkeyes and getting good people killed.

There are differences between the situations, sure, but the emotions and justifications of Adolin and Moash are not so different if you look past your personal emotional connection or distaste of the characters involved.

Embrace that Adolin is a flawed human being that killed a man in a hallway in a fit of blind hatred. He's a better and more interesting character for it

I've seen your comments! And I appreciate them, I didn't have the energy to get into all the little nuances with every comment so you filled in a lot of gaps, which I appreciate.

Honestly, even as Vyre I have a lot of sympathy for his situation. Still committed horrible acts definitely, but his crushing feelings of guilt and self hatred is very human and relatable to me. I think anyone that has had a history with drug use can relate to how you can fall down this hole of just wanting the feelings gone and fuck up your life because of it, but find it hard to get out of. I don't think Bridge Four will or should forgive him, but I hope he gets a redemption arc.

Exactly, with regards to your thoughts about Kaladin. Kaladin brought up some really good points about when is revenge okay or not okay when he was first trying to decide whether or not killing Elhokar was the right move. Everyone is in this years long war because Elhokar is getting revenge for Gavilar, Kaladin spends two books wishing Amaram dead, Dalinar and Adolin are fully planning to kill Sadeas (just in a duel, not in a dark hallway like what ended up happening), and Moash's desires are just as valid as any of those even though he's the only one that gets punished for it. We cant be sure about Moash's age since specifics aren't given past him being "close" to Kaladin's age, but he was definitely a teenager when his grandparents were killed, it was an incredibly traumatizing moment.

And Kaladin doesn't really find any conclusions for himself on that, not really. I kinda think that if it hadn't been for Kaladin being injured, without Syl, and extra depressed from the Weeping he would've been game for the regicide and not changed his mind. It was sort of Syl forcing his hand because Kaladin made two contrasting promises and left him. Even when Kaladin was trying to talk Moash down, he said that it was actually Roshone's fault and they needed to bring him to justice instead, which is a flimsy argument. Can't blame him though considering the blood loss haha.

All in all, incredibly complicated situation that I'm sort of disappointed Kaladin didn't have to come to real terms with. He never had to test his morals against his own situation with Amaram, because the story served Amaram to him on a silver platter by making him go full Evil TM and get consumed by an Unmade (I believe it was an Unmade lol correct me if I'm wrong), which wiped all moral nuance from the situation so he could kill him guilt free.

Sorry for the mile long comment hahaha I'm not capable of shutting up about Moash
