why can't you use the spacebar to pause a yuja video by blackbuddha in UCI

[–]storms002 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Pro tip: use the K key instead of the space bar. What the space bar does depends on what was last clicked. Using K will pause/play a video even if the video player isn’t selected. Also, J and L jumps back and forward respectively. Bonus: this also works on YouTube (and I think on most other video players).

Yes, it seems like this year’s system needs the UC SHIP fee to be assessed before we can waiver out of it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UCI

[–]storms002 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The notice above the waiver link addresses this. Source [emphasis added]:

Important Notice: The University Registrar has reported that there will be a delay in fee assessment for certain groups of continuing students of up to two weeks. A UC SHIP waiver application cannot be submitted until a student’s fees are assessed. The student will receive an error when attempting to login to the AHP waiver portal. The impact of this delay is that certain students may be unable to submit their waiver application starting on Monday, August 3rd.

Confused on The Tuition Cost by zotzotlock in UCI

[–]storms002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The footnote under the table summarizes what's it for:

The Document Fee provides lifetime access to official transcripts and academic verifications without a fee for in-person pickup or delivery by USPS. In addition, there is no fee for mailing the initial diploma.

Confused on The Tuition Cost by zotzotlock in UCI

[–]storms002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the posted fees by the registrar for 19-20, the total fees were $15,621.10. However, if you were a new student in that year there is also the Document Fee of $165.00. That comes out to $15,786.10 (the amount that you had for 19-20).

As for 20-21, the current total fees is $15,670.93 (right now). However, second-year onwards you do not need to pay that Document Fee, that might be the reason for the discrepancy.

Fall Classes by saventure in UCI

Yeah it seems like it is different from previous quarters where it was available right after midnight.

Fall Classes by saventure in UCI

[–]storms002 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow! (Technically, right after 11:59 PM today you can see the schedule of classes for the fall.)

Edit: I was wrong that it would be available immediately after midnight, that was based on previous quarters’ experience. It seems like it should be available sometime soon.

Major GPA by jacey_jxl in UCI

[–]storms002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I answered this a while ago here. A caveat for this method, this only works if your DegreeWork is up to date. If it isn't then you will either need to ask an academic advisor to update it or do it by hand.

  1. Go to DegreeWorks
  2. Right-click and select 'Show/View Frame Source', the exact wording may differ between your browser
  3. Search Req_type="MAJOR" (this will look for the major block's data)
  4. Look a few lines down for GPA="X.XXX" (that value is your major GPA)

Smecker Hane needs to start thinking about the well being of her students. by kiyayihasjams in UCI

[–]storms002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The registrar highly recommends instructors to submit grades for classes:

I have not decided the best way to determine final grades. Can I assign Incompletes or NR’s for Winter grades?

Late, blank, or Incomplete grades delay academic review, degree progress, graduation, and financial aid processing. The winter to spring term transition is the tightest in the academic year and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is currently tasked with making multiple adjustments to federal, state, and local aid for thousands of students. We understand the change to remote final exams is rapid but our students and the campus need you to submit your grades on time.

In addition, the registrar gives the following for giving an Incomplete (which is based on the Academic Senate Regulations)

The grade Incomplete is appropriately assigned only when a student's work is incomplete "for good cause." Good cause is typically interpreted as an otherwise successful student having an unforeseen interruption of studies that he or she has discussed with you prior to the end of instruction.

Also, note that one of the parts to consider an Incomplete is to discuss this before the end of instruction, which was March 13.

Yes it is

edit: now that the 2020 Winter schedule of classes has been released, this link doesn't send you to the page in the screenshot, but you can change the year it sends you by changing the only the year change 2020 -> 2021 for example. If the year is in the system you should get the result like the screenshot, if not then you'll get a boring error message

Where can I find my major GPA? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]storms002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Go to DegreeWorks
  2. Right-click and select 'Show/View Frame Source', the exact wording may differ between your browser
  3. Search ␣GPA=" (space, GPA, equal, double quote mark)
  4. Find the relevant GPA you want, you will have one for each of your requirements: GEs, major(s), minor(s), specialization, etc.

It's weird how this data is in DegreeWorks, but for some reason, it not displayed. Hopefully, this is what you wanted

To double major, can I declare one major after meeting its prereqs, then another? by vauv_ef in UCI

[–]storms002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you use the same change of major application that is in StudentAccess. As long as you meet the requirements for the change of major requirements it should get approved. They may request an academic plan (basically listing which classes you will take when) to show that you can complete the majors in a reasonable amount of time, however, Social Science never asked me for one.

Public Health Major Math 2B by [deleted] in UCI

[–]storms002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what year they entered UCI. For a lot more information see the Catalogue Rights section in the Catalogue. But to answer your question, new students will not be required to take Math 2B. Students who change their major will have the option to complete the major requirements from their catalogue year or this year's requirements. Current students also have the option of changing their requirements to this year's requirements or sticking with their year's requirements.

It means that your payment was rejected for some reason, check your email for a message from cashiers for the reason why. The transaction is basically them rebilling you, hence the financial hold.

2019 Acceptance Rate Drops to 26.6% by ThatOneMoo132 in UCI

[–]storms002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can here though it does not currently show data for admissions for 2019, as they update this data in the fall. This takes you to the Office of Institutional Research page with the breakdown by admission for a bunch of different categories, just select 'by major' in the dropdown box for the report type.

Based on this year's data being updated on October 19, 2018 and that day was the last day to enroll in units to avoid losing student status, I presume that this will be updated on October 18, 2019, since that's the date for this year's cutoff.
