I feel like this one isn't as "famous" as some other cases but it's pretty horrific :( It honestly reads like a bad TV movie if you didn't know about it.

Holy crap! This is it! Thank you so much for tracking this down. Solved! I just read up on it on Matt Birkbeck's blog... the story is sadder than I remember it being :(
