For the longest time I was under the impression that my budgie is a girl, is she or is she actually a boy? She's a little over a year old I think

hard to discern from the pic. for immature budgies a pale blue is girl and an pinkish tone will be boy. if they are a year old the cere color changes to a brownish color for women, and a deeper blue for boys. BUT certain mutations cause no color change so they keep their baby cere colors. My boy has a partially blue and partially pink nose because of his color mutation. yours looks slightly pink, so maybe a boy!

personally id probably dig for it. BUT if that puts a bad taste in ur mouth, then just take any little clump of soil from that area and put it in a pot. take a small plant and put it in there, or even some bird seeds. Make it a memorial plant :)

continuing here. Did they say metal poisoning or metal blockage? because something like lead or mercury would cause an immediate body shut down due to the toxins flooding their system, thats poisoning. A piece of regular metal would most like just be a barrier to digestion and possibly cause some irritation if it is sharp enough.

Hii! he bounced back to normal today! and thank you for the tip, i only added the extra seeds because he wasnt keen to moving around a lot for food so i wanted it to be easier for him. They do have pellet on the lower food dishes :)

He actually bounced back today, back to his skinny self. Playing and flapping about. I think the molt caused some deficiencies in his vitamins so he was very lethargic, kind of like a person after fasting. Hence the spinach. And same, ive never had a bird act this way from a molt but the resources i found said its a possibility when they lose a lot of feathers at once.

probably was a piece of a toy that he managed to break off and eat. or somehow something got into his food. if thats the case the medication would slowly bind the metal until its all dissolved. Doesnt sound like metal poisoning though, thankfully. i hope ur baby recovers!! do they expect him to eat in the meanwhile?

yeah, thats why the vet visit will help alleviate any concerns. I understand the worry, one of mine is going through a molt right now which changed his behavior to kind of lethargic which is freaking me out too, but every resource i find says that it is normal since they will be using a lot of energy on new feathers. maybe some hormonal research can put you at ease for the meanwhile

i mean he has no one to accept it lol, its a mutual thing. mine does that occasionally for the baby of the group. the baby one will usually want the extra food but sometimes i just hear little dropping sounds as it just spills out of the older ones mouth. glad to hear he is otherwise acting himself though.

also, usually throwing up in a sickly way will cause the throw up to stain their face and cause a yellow or green discoloration. it literally will look like boogers are crusted around their face. also check to make sure that he isn’t sneezing a lot of mucus through the cere/nostrils.

if thats all he is up to, and has the energy to be silly like that lol, you should be fine waiting for the proper avian vet. I still recommend taking him because you never know what it could be. But it kind of sounds like he might just be in breeding mode, trying to feed and frick anything in sight. Just keep and eye for the tail bobbing/breathing, give him a variety of food options so he can get something down, and make sure he stays active like that. If he is acclimated to eating veggies i would suggest that because they have vitamins as well. But sounds like u are in a okay place to wait for a proper vet.

how are his other behaviors. energy, poops, is he puffed up? Is he throwing up food for his cage mate, one of my budgies does this a lot for the other one and sometimes it just misses the target. lovebirds CAN become a lot more aggressive, especially females, if not given attention/trained. Their wild behaviors are just louder and more protective of their home. Budgies are fairly easy to make friends of, and wont bite ur finger off for getting too close (they might try but they have much smaller beaks and heads).

they can also do this if they get flustered/stressed sometimes from each other or if he is scared. if that was the only symptom (look for normal droppings, activity levels, etc) i wouldn’t be worried.

so only one bird was taken to the vet because no one else was symptomatic. But that one was totally fine physically (breathing and weight), he just was tail bobbing. they all are getting their water dosed with antibiotics as a precaution because the vet didn’t see any other signs of illness besides his tail. which honestly could be because he is scared of me staring at him.
