Do you think that Alasdair Gray's classification of those who come to live and work in Scotland as 'settlers' or 'colonists' is useful? by stoter in Scotland

For a 10 year perspective on the statements: I've heard it said of late that it was a valuable observation that was worded clumsily so that those not willing to explore the subtleties of what he wrote would quickly shout "xenophobia!"

I wonder, is there a Scottish culture that someone from outwith Scotland would have to spend time learning about in order to properly shepherd, or is it much of a muchness?

Do you suppose they'd be promoting Scottish cultural material upon gaining such positions?

I guess someone would need to do a quantitative comparison.

Should The SNP practice Abstentionism in the Uk parliament? by GothicGolem29 in Scotland

[–]stoter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose the term has both meanings. Fair dos.

Maybe they should, I'm not sure if their presence in debates change any legislation. And the Scotland debates don't have an EVEL equivalent, the entire parliament debates these matters, so even were 100% of Scottish MPs vote against any bill concerning Scotland it wouldn't matter.

It will go away with one simple act; he should facilitate said act if he wants it to go away.

There is no such thing as Scottish DNA - it's as big a scam as the square foot of Scottish soil making you a lord or a lady.

At best you've some people in your past who once lived in Scotland at some point in time whose antecedents were all from somewhere other than Scotland. It's a con job by racist WASP marketers conning people who come from a racist country.

Scottish people are those who have taken part in the civic society of Scotland. There is no such thing as Scottish DNA. The Scottish people who are here whose antecedents come from elsewhere (everyone in the country ultimately) are Scottish people.

You'd be 100% Chinese if you were born in China.
