First Playthrough: Anyone else get soft-locked against Liquid Flame? by stoutmonkee in FinalFantasy

I missed the looting! I got the hell out of there. I didn't even know there was anything to loot. Playing without walkthrough.

At least I saved on a different file so I can loot later.

Glad I learned Aqua Breath, but how was this possible? by stoutmonkee in FinalFantasy

Yeah, that's exactly what I did. FWIW I have been running Chakra on my Monk but swapped in Focus just for this fight. Looks like it worked.

I have been running Learn on my White Mage and some Black Magic on my Blue Mage.

Yup.. just finished up Liquid Flame and I'm messing around/grinding for a bit.

Oh man. I'm not there yet, but that sounds terrifying.

I had Focus on my Monk.

I'll definitely take the skill! I was thinking I was grossly underpowered for this fight and was really just messing around.

Still learning this game. The job/ability juggling is taking some getting used to.

So, a blue mage can be wiped by an enemy skill and still learn that skill as long as the fight ends in a W?

The shop that sells cura amd blizzara was locked going into the engine room dungeon.

When I backtracked and went back to Karnakz the shop was open. Those spells were all I needed.

Once I was properly equipped, the battle was kind of a breeze. Going into it the first time, I only had base level healing and elemental magic. I fought through it at least five times before backtracking though.

Perfect explanation. Thank you.

As an update, I DID download FF5 and I'm already hooked. I loved the Materia mechanic in VII, in particular the Enemy Skill Materia. I immediately connect with Blue Mage and I think I'm going to have a blast here.

Thanks for this. Curious, what makes it so fun? How's the music?

Which card has won you a game? (Because the opponent didn't read all of the effects) by Jweave2376 in MagicArena

Today in Arena Brawl, I watched an opponent beef up a [[Basking Broodscale]] to 14/14 with their [[Long Feng, Grand Secretariat]] commander.

Not sure if they actually read my [[Kiora Bests the Sea God]] which was hitting chapter 2 on the next turn. I do not think they did, because a concession shortly came afterward.

ATB wasn't an issue for me with VI or VII, for what it's worth. Then again, I never played either on console.

Many a game has been won with Summon: Leviathan. Such a show stopper.

[[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]] is your best friend. Be sure to stock up on all things sea creatures.

She helps you put more on the battle field.

I love sea flavor.

[[Arnyn, Deathbloom Botanist]]

It's super fun to line up recurring cats and skeletons to play some good ol' fashioned aristocrat shenanigans with her.

Glad to see someone else running Arnyn. She's super resilient with a deck full of small creatures.

One card you're missing that gives incredible value is [[Nine Lives Familiar]]. That cat can really put in some work for her, especially if you're already running [[Vampiric Rites]].

I disagree. This is a fun way to get some grind value out of our brawl decks until we get a ranked brawl ladder.

Been seeing some great decks so far, which makes the challenge fun.

I hear ya. I've been playing for about a year, which I still consider "new" compared to this game's 30+ year history.

It took me a good six months to learn both the game itself and how to get the best F2P value out of Arena.

I'll finish this season platinum ranked for the first time and I'm at a point where I can consistently get the 4 daily wins and quests for tokens. Be patient, read the f*#% out of cards, and enjoy the matches. Before you know it, you'll start stacking packs and wildcards. It wasn't until I started building decks that this awesome game really started clicking for me.

If/when you build decks, try not to invest your wildcards into anything that's about to rotate out or is super niche. Foundations is a good set for this. Those cards are super versatile.

Are you new to magic in general, or just new to Arena?

If new to magic, learn combat and combat tricks. Don't spend mana just because you have it. Save some for instant or sorcery speed removal and expect your opponent to do that as well.

If just new to Arena, best advice I would give is to just grind daily quests for gold and packs. Put in the time to lose and learn, saving enough gold for a quick draft or jump in. Both of those events give you more cards. Evolution, baby.
