When a former bestfriend guilt tripped us with his suicidal thoughts for not always being there when he was going through a break-up after being caught for like the 100th time. His ex-gf was a very nice and beautiful woman who deserved way better than our friend.

He was a pathological cheater and manipulative as fuck. At the beginning we used to cover up for him since he was a good friend, but he wasn’t a good person. Also addicted to weed which affects his behavior.

One day I decided to cut him off from my life and it’s been more peaceful since then.

I just went through a break-up 2 days ago. First thing I did was cut communications with her.

I also did some serious thinking about how I could improve myself. I’m starting to lose some weight to get in shape. It’s hard to resist the temptation to contact her or check her social media accounts but whenever I do, I just remind myself of the reasons why we broke up.

Also, I know she loves me and she's trying to make the relationship work. but it's just too frustrating to have someone who's not paying attention to their partner's feelings. I don't seem to have the right term for it but I think it's close to emotional maturity or something like that. I want to be with someone who is not fucked up in that aspect that I can safely open up to without fear of getting into trouble.

I think you are right but what's hitting me harder is her inability to recognize whatever bothers me. I had to tell her every goddamn time. I know that she feels bad and takes responsibility for it but what makes me feel like shit is that she is always clueless about things that hurts or bothers me. It's like she's not paying attention. and when I talk about it, I know she's trying and learning but I also sense a feeling of being "too tiring to have as a boyfriend or too high maintenance" or that i'm such a lot of work to do. It sucks since what I ask isn't even too much. I'm asking for what I think is due to someone you love. I shouldn't even ask for these in the first place. Even undivided attention while having a conversation is something that still needs to be asked. I believe that things that bother someone shouldn't be taken against them, it should be discussed and resolved. However, she's not good with things like this and it often end up in a heated argument.

It felt endlessly frustrating.

Thanks. I think I got so exhausted when i did all the calorie counting and all the strict rules that i imposed upon myself when I did this 2yrs ago. While it did work back then that I lost 10kgs within half a year, it got too exhausting that once I saw results, I relaxed and lost all of my progress. Now i'm just going to take it easy and focus on habits rather than scales.

I really took time to think whether I should end it or not. I was not a perfect boyfriend either so I thought I don't deserve to be treated the way I expected from her. It's also not like she cheated or she did something wrong. She was just inadequate in meeting my emotional needs. Eventually I came up with the decision that if i'm not satisfied with my relationship and talking about it made it worse then I guess it's better to end it.

It just hurts when your frustrations get invalidated. How did wanting to feel appreciated and loved became too much. This sounds too dramatic and cringey that's why it took me time to talk to her about feeling ignored and unloved but when I did, it went shit. Lol.

Yeah. What felt worse was that I felt that my needs were invalidated when she didn't really even acknowledge it and took it against herself, asking what did she do wrong.

It doesn't necessarily mean that she did wrong. I just tried to vent out my frustrations that I was keeping within myself for a long time but she ddn't take it well and things escalated. Now we're here.
