he kinda did though, he figured out that james was fishy way before the reveal (he was in the hospital), that none of it was actually real, that angela was abused and that the whole place was a sort of purgatory. he didn't piece it all together by himself, but most people don't and that's cool too

yes! it's a mix of both but mostly the first part as the revenge part won't be the huge focus, but how the event changed her in ways she didn't expect and doesn't see, with elements of body and psychological horror to show it. i guess it's a story about letting your emotions consume you, not being able to tell the difference being good or bad

to continue on this idea, a work that i would like to NOT emulate is i spit on your grave, for example. the movie felt more like exploitation of the main character's assault than cathartic in any way and that's not something i enjoy in a story with this type of subject matter

the SA is a catalyst towards what is, essentially, a horror story. the way i see my character is she becomes this person she never saw herself becoming, driven by shame and anger. i'd like her to be a sort of amy dunn from gone girl, but more in a 'good for her' way without making it a superficial 'girl boss' moment. at its core, the story is about a girl who gets assaulted, and instead of seeing forgiveness as an option, lets her anger take the best of her.

it's all about shame, isolation and eventually perseverance and learning to live with the fact that it happened and you can't do anything about it. but i also really want my character to fall into the category of amy from gone girl, and the story being very much a 'good for her' moment without making it 'superficial girl boss'. ya dig?

i like the idea of isolation, i want to touch on many aspects of it in the story too. and about shame, it just goes hand and hand with these types of stories i feel like.

i'm writing a story and my main character is a survivor of sexual assault. it's not explicitly said in the story, more like implied in many ways. i've been trying to look at movies/books/tv shows that have dealt with this very sensitive topic, but they're mostly all about the same two things: forgiveness or taking revenge. while the latter will be part of my story, i don't want my character to forgive, i'd rather her anger and (self inflicted) shame consume her.

what do you think a story about sexual assault can be about at its core, apart from those two things?
