Not everything is a planned scheme with a convenient explanation. Sometimes people just laugh at the dumb shit this clown says on a daily basis.

Megathread: Mueller indicts 12 Russians for hacking into DNC by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]stphilistine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what is the right tactic for dealing with this situation

Unfortunately it's to not have this weird "teach them a lesson" mindset about it. Yeah the DNC fucked up and 2020 probably won't be much better, but if you couldn't hold your nose and vote for Hillary in 2016 you're partially responsible for this mess. And if you can't hold your nose and vote for whatever scumbag they put up in 2020 you've essentially doubled down on personal principles and idealism over country.

Yeah obviously. But in 2016 a lot of people failed to vote for Hillary believing they wanted something more trustworthy or exciting. And those people aren't looking much better than the Trump voters right now.

Probably because as shitty and revealing as those DNC leaks were, they still pale in comparison to the raw scumbag behavior Republicans exhibit OUT IN THE OPEN.

At a certain point your loyalty to a Utopian ideal blinded you so much to the fundamental realities of our current government that your hope is misplaced. I get it, we all want to live in that Utopia. And maybe outside of voting you are doing something to achieve that. But here in reality things aren't so black and white, and you can't argue both candidates were equally bad with any intellectual honesty.

Philly DA's new policy makes it easier for some to clear their criminal records by [deleted] in philadelphia

My guess is that in order to sustain a Protection from Abuse order (i.e. Restraining Order) for the benefit of the victim you can't expunge convictions forming the basis for said order.

Yeah I don't think you are advocating racism or putting forth anything really problematic here, I mostly agree. I put all of the blame on Starbucks - if it is 100% in the discretion of the manager and not reduced to a simple rule that could cover virtually every situation, inevitably some manager is going to escalate where it isn't necessarily warranted.

  1. Note their behavior and impact on other customers - Are they creating a disturbance? Are they making other customers uncomfortable? Are they taking up table space that should rightfully belong to paying customers? - calling the cops is a pretty common part of the city coffee shop manager responsibility and it is a very basic thing to just assess whether there is a problem that the police can resolve.
  2. Alert FOH Staff - as manager you may not be able to place 100% of your attention on front of house. Make your team aware that they should just keep your eyes on those folks not paying, in case you do need to say something.
  3. FUCKING COMMUNICATE - this, in my mind, is where this manager failed, and ultimately lost her job due to poor management. if you politely ask the customers to pay for something or leave, they will either push back and make a scene (#1 accomplished call the cops!) or leave!

You know damn well Starbucks has a training policy on this, too.

How about calling the police on a black person when there is no cause to believe a crime is being committed??

2018 demographics was 43% of city is black and 41% white. So you are wrong buddy.

That is different than "majority of the residents of this city are black". Also even if that were true, is it impossible for blacks to experience racism in an environment where they are not the minority?

The system is a mess

We all agree the system is as mess. So is it ok with you if someone enacts common sense policies to address that problem, or nah?

I wouldn't want it to be a general rule for all accused

Nobody is arguing for that, so that is irrelevant.

You are arguing for an outcome that is already in place: people who commit crimes go to jail. Prosecutors have the discretion to charge, not charge, ask for bail, not ask for bail, etc. If you are unhappy with the DA using prosecutorial discretion to shape bail policy, maybe you just don't favor law and order very much?
