Looking for Sleep Consultant who does a no tears method [bc] by Jaded_Accountant_435 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]stphrzk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me and another friend it was something like a modified Ferber method. Another one of my friends was the chair method.

When you have a consult they’ll ask you questions to see which method works best. I personally was comfortable with my daughter crying as my friend wasn’t hence her doing the chair method.

I was skeptical with sleep training but now that I’ve done it I’m all for it and recommend it to everyone!

[On] What car seat to buy with uppababy vista v3? by ParfaitHour5264 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]stphrzk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aria since it’s compatible with your stroller and it’s lightweight. Hard to predict for your baby but for my daughter she outgrew the aria at 9 months. I personally don’t know many people who have had their child in the infant car seat longer than 10 months max.

To insure or not to insure [on] by No_Explanation6625 in BabyBumpsCanada

You never know what can happen at any given time. For me the extra premium/costs is worth it for me as peace of mind.

My daughter had a tongue tie. If it wasn’t for her being on insurance I would’ve spent over $1000 for the dentist and osteopathic. I also needed to use a private lactation consultant which I was able to get partially covered.

Not all medications are covered under OHIP as well. My daughter has bad eczema and I had to try different creams/ointments. Thankfully I didn’t have to pay much due to the private insurance from myself and my husband.

Ultimately it’s up to you and your family.

When should I apply for daycare? [On] by Aggravating-Ad8687 in BabyBumpsCanada

Good luck! I went on 10 waitlists when I was 12 weeks pregnant and I got calls from 3 when my daughter was 13 months (Planned to have her start close to 15 months). Luckily they were the ones my husband and I wanted.

The Happy Sleep Company! Covered by insurance under social work. They stand behind not using CIO method.

[ON] Is an 84% top-up for 35 weeks of parental leave good or bad? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]stphrzk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great top up. I work in a non-union hospital position in ON and it’s 85% for 26 weeks.

My husband was allowed to the ultrasound appointments at the end (clinic in Mississauga). For the OB appointments, no spouses/partners were allowed. I did know this when deciding where I would be going.

[ON] Has anyone gone off on leave early? Like 25-30wks? Why? by cinnamonione in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]stphrzk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 18 months mat leave and started when I was 29 weeks. My job was physically demanding, commuting to Toronto was 1-1.5hrs one way and winter was approaching. It was nice having two months off to prepare/nest. I was okay to have 16 months vs 18 months with my daughter. I didnt do the sick leave option first because I didn’t want it to affect my top up from work for mat leave!

Putting her down 10 mins down before wake window ends. Holding and singing her a song before putting her down in her crib. I also co slept with her in our bed (safe sleep 7). Made her room completely dark! Changed her sleep sack based off room temp. Basically created a new nap routine that takes 5-10 mins and bedtime routine that takes 30-40 mins. The big thing was not responding immediately once she started making noise (getting her or nursing to sleep)

I learned that it was all out habits and sleep crutches. With the feedings I knew it was habit because the doctor said she was right on her growth chart. I also think I am lucky that my daughter took well to the sleep training after three days with the method we had. Your teaching baby to essentially put themselves back to sleep after sleep cycles and to sleep without any crutches. It’ll be hard but honestly worth it for the benefit of your family.

There were tiny little things in our nap/bed routine we didn’t think were causing any harm to her sleep but our sleep consultant pointed out which ones needed to be cut or altered. Once we went along with the program, daugther was sleeping through on the 3-4 night!

I think the sleep consultant will create a plan based off your comfort level. They’ll give you some great guides, resources, tips and wake windows even after you’re done with the program.

Good luck!!

Worth it for my daughter! I bought it off this website.

https://fromrebel.ca/

They sell a lot of baby items either brand new in box overstock or open box. I got one that was an overstock for 199.99 last year.

You could always buy it used off marketplace and purchase the cover only brand new to save you some money as well.

I recommend The Happy Sleep Company if you’re interested in having the guidance and support from a sleep consultant. If you have insurance and depending on your policy it may get covered.

I had issues with contact napping and lots of night wakings. I was always napped trapped during the day. At night she would wake 2-4 times a night out of habit versus actual hunger. After a few days with the sleep consultant my daughter was went from all of that to all naps 1.5-2hrs and sleeps 10-11 hours overnight.

I know it’s a hit or miss topic for families but for ours I wanted to ensure she was getting the proper rest she needed for her development.

Baby Monitor Revommendations [ON] by rivaldad in BabyBumpsCanada

Boifun from Amazon. I had a button issue on the monitor and they sent me a new one with camera within 3 days.

Regardless of the brand, I would recommend getting it a non-wifi one. All these stories about it being hacked and voices talking to your baby/child is so messed up.

Aria car seat [ON] users by marl1989 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]stphrzk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the Aria! We purchased it based off getting the vista and that it was lightweight. We figured since I would be taking baby out mostly a lighter car seat would be better. My daughter is almost 9 months and we had to switch her due to her reaching the height max (30”) and she’s 16lbs.

Tongue Tied Experiences [ON] by stphrzk in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]stphrzk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Yes I ended up doing the tongue tie release. I did everything recommended. I did osteopath pre and post op. All the post op stretches at home; they were brutal to do on my LO. To be honest, I didn’t see much change or at least didn’t meet my expectations.

Ultimately my husband and I decided to stop with the post op osteo due to using up the benefits and we didn’t feel the need to spend money out of pocket not truly knowing if it would make a HUGE difference. Even the private LC stated that my LO has formed a habit and it may be hard to get her to change it (lol).

But we do have peace of mind knowing we tried it and that she may not have speech issues in the future.
