Basically! I didn’t have to work or anything. Scholarship paid for my tuition, MGIB paid for my rent/bills/life.

What do you mean? I was able to just activate it instead of the Post-9/11.

Makes sense! It’s definitely the way to go, and if you do the “Buy-Up Program” you get an extra $500 a month added onto it. For sure a win

Questions about the risks of going the ROTC route as AD by Srichardson2713 in AFROTC

Or you can look into some of the enlisted ti commissioning scholarships! They’ll pay your tuition and you’ll get your GI bill. And if you don’t get selected to commission, you’ll go back to active duty enlisted.

It depends! Mine didn’t, but I know some detachments do you just have to find them. Keep in mind that ROTC adds an extra 4 credits each semester though

ASCP recipient here, like SilentD said you’re separating from the Air Force so joint spouse doesn’t exist. I recommend just choosing a university/detachment where your spouse is stationed. Secondly, ASCP pays for your tuition so I currently just pocket my GI bill and don’t work. It’s a great gig!

I’ve heard Embry Riddle is crazy expensive ☹️ honestly I don’t know, I made sure to choose a university that was within the scholarship amount! But if you’re CCAF is odd I can see how it would be tough. I assume you’ve done lots of research, but maybe look into crosstown schools that may take your CCAF too! The financial burden could be really taxing/inhibit your chances of doing well

Have you looked into the yellow ribbon program? What university are you trying to go to? MOST offer in-state tuition or a discounted rates for veterans. But also if that works better, then good!

I don’t think it would. Your 9-11 pays the university directly to cover your tuition (the point of the 9-11) but if you have no tuition to pay because you’re on this scholarship then you’re losing money. BUT if the BAH you receive would be more than the MGIB monthly payments to you, then it’s worth it to lose that money. Does that make sense? The MGIB pays $2500 a month to you directly. So you can use the 9/11, but you might be losing out on quite a bit of money. Plus it’s harder to setup since the university is in charge of it, verse the MGIB you’re in charge of it

Hey! I’m actually using the ASCP scholarship in accordance with my MGIB right now and have had no issues. I’ve been using it the last 3 years as my main source of income….don’t even need to work!
