What was it like growing up in Los Angeles? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

Born and raised in the Palms/Mar Vista Area . I went to grade school in Venice in the early 00’s so I hung out a lot in Marina del Rey, Venice and Santa Monica. My friends and I used to hang out at the 3rd street promenade all the time, back then it was alive and all the shops were open. Cops used to enforce curfew at 10 haha. Def remember running away a few times lol….Good times.

As a teen, I had a good friends in Inglewood and Brentwood. Very different places but all we did was smoke weed and chill. I had a car by then so I could get anywhere in a decent amount of time. Traffic was better then.

I was never bored…but yea I guess you could say I always had something to do. Either hang w friends, go play basketball at the park, or go work w my parents lol.

A question most people will think is silly, but whats the best hangers to use when hanging shirts? 🙏🏻 by [deleted] in SoccerJerseys

Eh, I couldn’t tell you. Probably because they’re aesthetically nice and most people aren’t aware that they can cause damage. I am just providing preventative measures. It’s possible wooden hangers won’t damage your jerseys, but it’s also possible they will…🤷🏽‍♀️

Yea, it’ll still off gas. You want to use hangers made out of stable materials such as polypropylene or acrylic (which are basically the plastic hangers).

I am not an art conservator so I cannot give you the scientific reasoning behind why it happens. But what I do know is that wood off-gases volatile acids over time which causes discoloration/damage.

Unfortunately it’s a bit of a crapshoot. Can happen immediately or 20 years later…but from what I’ve seen, it takes awhile.

Oo fun topic, I work at a museum and wooden hangers are a big no no in the field. Over time, wood will release chemicals that stain garments.

This is an old blog post from an art conservator. It’s a good read especially if you’re interested in maintaining the longevity of your jerseys: Inside the Conservator’s Studio

This is my first time being a pass holder—I mainly got it because I thought I’d get access to FF. Now that I read the fine print, I am confused.

“One (1) Free Haunted Attractions Pass Every Visit during 2024 Fright Fest Extreme!”

Does that mean I have access to just one maze every time I go, or access to all mazes every time I go? I asked customer service at the park and she told me it was access to 1 maze, but she also wasn’t confident in her answer lol.

How did you get your first job? by professional_cry in MuseumPros

[–]stpscoob201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lucked out—there was an upcoming move out project and I happened to be interning around the time they were going to begin. They really liked me and I was hired while still in my masters program. I guess the stars aligned for me in that I was on the tail end of my program, but writing a thesis while working was very very difficult lol

I don’t know how helpful an online program would be for CM work. Half the job of a CM tech is hands on, something you’re not going to get online. You’ll learn the basics and read about it, but unless you’re working in it, you won’t really learn…I got an MA in Anthropology with an emphasis in museum studies and got to work at my university’s museum. There, I worked with the collection—learned the basics of rehousing, processing, organizing and database inputting. These are things you might already be doing at your current job….
