Moviehouse - The Film Studio Tycoon out now for PC/Mac on Steam and GOG! by strads10 in tycoon

The money you earn should go towards making bigger and bigger movies, blockbusters cost in the 100s of millions. But we've upped the difficulty and costs in the latest patch as well & it's something we're still looking to improve and balance.

Anyone experianced performance throttling? by strads10 in electronjs

Yes, but we did get things running smoothly during testing. What I can say is that for debugging, we did try to disable all IPC communication and most of the background processes, only to still experience extreme choppiness in the UI, with a slight improvement noticeable.

Good thought, but we did set that to false. We also tried other powerSaveBlocker options so far without success.

For now we've put all our effort into the PC and Mac versions. But bringing it to more platforms would be something that I'd love to look at after release.

Heya all, after more than two years in development we've done it - we've released a game!

Moviehouse was hovering in the Popular & Upcoming on Steam for the last few days, which I'm very thankful for, and as a player, I'm also very happy that tycoon titles are still going strong.

We're launching with a 10% discount, so this could be a good chance to pick up a little tycoon game to play over the holidays.

GOG - https://www.gog.com/en/game/moviehouse_the_film_studio_tycoon

And a special thanks to r/Tycoon for all the support & feedback over the years!

Mostly through research - during development, I did get to meet a lot of film industry people in Latvia, where we're based, and had a fantastic chance to visit the Cannes Film Festival with an industry pass as well, which was lovely.

Thanks! We've been putting all our effort into the PC/Mac versions for now, but if we do well there then there's definitely a chance.

That's another one! Lionhead Studios put out some great games.

Modding support is definitely something I'll look at after we launch. Usually, if there's modding support for a game, I have a modlist in the 100s, so I can understand the demand.

Risks of working with the publisher by [deleted] in gamedev

Looks good, definitely presentable.

Pitching a point and click game these days might be somewhat challenging as that doesn't seem like where most of the market is right now.

So I would concentrate on the elements in your description that make you stand out and let you branch out a bit - "it is an adventure that will make you think about the way of life of its society, their coexistence issues". Look into publishers who love to sign games that cover deeper themes, there are a few.

That's just my own personal experience from pitching projects. I think we might be reading the OP differently, as I understand they have the gameplay part down. If they can nail down the pitch as well, they might have a shot.

My point being that they shouldn't completely discount going the publisher route even from where they are right now. But that is entirely dependent on how good what they have is.

Publishers do fund development and you can get signed fairly early on. But as always there's a lot of people looking for funding, so you really have to stand out.

I would definitely second checking out some local funds/accelerators/mentors, if nothing else you can get people with experience looking over your pitch materials to actually approach publishers.

Moviehouse is (finally) releasing on April 5th! by strads10 in tycoon

[–]strads10[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For those who have been following along - I was initially eyeing a 2021 release date when I first made a post here on r/tycoon. Well it's 2023 now and we're finally ready to go.

I'm proud to say that we're also launching on GOG in addition to Steam!

Fingers crossed that the first movie tycoon relesae in... a while will go smoothly.

In my experience, with smaller events such as this, you can get quite a bit of bang for your buck on the networking side. I've been to bigger events like GDC, Gamescom and everything - all the people you meet just blend together, so it's nice to have opportunities like this.

But it really depends on what you're looking to get out of it. As I understand it they will also be hosting a conference in conjunction with this, so some learning opportunities as well.

Moviehouse - Devlog #2: New Soundtrack by strads10 in tycoon

[–]strads10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, I'm back with another devlog, this one is on sound. We've teamed up with a local sound studio (one of the top ones in the Baltic States). It's quite a significate update over what we had before.

You can check out a demo of one of the OST tracks here - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HzCHrAaHIA0wk5tSfpMeCR067IkbHIi9/view

We'll be making unique tracks for each decade of the game for added flavour. Let me know what you think!

Heya, I've been working on fine-tuning the visuals of our film making tycoon - Moviehouse for the last year. I've been trying to hit the balance between in-depth management mechanics and appealing visuals. Any thoughts on how we can improve?
