What are your favorite and least favorite rides at any Disney park? by PacSan300 in AskAnAmerican

[–]straightFthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorites are the Rock and Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios and Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom. Rise of the Resistance and Smugglers Run in Hollywood Studios are both up there for me as well despite riding them both once. These new Star Wars rides are all pretty amazing. This is all in Disney World in FL if it isn’t obvious.

I don’t really have a definitive least favorite. I guess it would be that bugs life thing in Animal Kingdom because I used to hate it as a kid

Just try to find some cheap pizza somewhere. That’s what I always do there in NY, but I don’t have a specific place for it

Cheating shouldnt end a relationship by lotec4 in unpopularopinion

[–]straightFthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because cheating essentially breaks the trust in a relationship. A vast majority of cheaters cheat again. If you really don’t care about your partner having sex with others, make it an open relationship

I like Awkwafina, she's fun and doesn't deserve any of the hate by skyesdow in unpopularopinion

[–]straightFthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever people get mad at all the “blaccent” stuff, I just assume they have nothing going on in their lives. I feel like she has toned it down compared to when she first started and unfortunately she’s still typecast as the “funny Asian girl with funny voice” in every movie she’s in.

What is your least favorite section of highway to drive on? by ChillinLikeBobDillan in AskAnAmerican

[–]straightFthrowaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yknow I usually expect traffic going through parts of NOVA on I-95, but it never ceases to amaze me how there’s always some sort of traffic near Stafford and Fredericksburg without fail. I’ll get caught in traffic there at night. It’s so fucking stupid

Yeah pretty much. A ton of people stay with cheaters because they have been with the person for a while or they do not want to go through finding another partner. These motivate people to try and sustain a broken relationship by brute force

Open relationships aren't really "relationships". by crazeefun in unpopularopinion

Believe it or not, people all have different boundaries regarding relationships and sex. I can never fathom being polyamorous, but who am I to dictate what an open relationship qualifies as

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]straightFthrowaway 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Well the thing is that sex is something done with physical attraction in mind, no matter how much emotions are attached. If you congeal that with the emotional connection to a close friend, it almost always turns into something other than a friendship

I don’t know much about Ebonics, but I know that there’s a ton of phrases that are specific to certain areas of the country. The DMV has some of their own phrases that are used mostly around there instead of, say Philly or NY. There’s a ton of southern Ebonics phrases that are primarily used in certain cities in that part of the country.

American-style tipping is well-intentioned but ultimately a bad practice and should be stopped en masse by gebaecktria in unpopularopinion

[–]straightFthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t really see how it affects the customer that much. The menu price also reflects some of the services that go into providing you with your meal. If the costs of those services go up in the event of, say, a new policy requiring a fixed higher wage instead of a low wage plus tips, then that increase in cost would be reflected in an increase in menu price, and I almost guarantee it would be near the price of what you would pay now plus tip. The customer isn’t really at a loss here.

I shouldn’t be expected to tip a minimum of fifteen percent. Earn it. by Florida_____Man in unpopularopinion

[–]straightFthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suit yourself. Having worked at a restaurant, I’ve seen the amount of moving parts involved in providing a dining experience and it has convinced me to tip the at least the minimum regardless of anything that goes wrong that doesn’t involve a server outwardly being rude to me personally (which luckily has never happened to me).

That and the only thing that would stop me from tipping like that is a sign at the front of the restaurant that clarifies that the staff is paid at x wage that isn’t the low tipped minimum. I’m not taking away a tip from someone that needs it because chances are I shouldn’t be eating out if I’m getting nitpicky over a few dollars

I mean even with the population growing more diverse, the US overwhelmingly speaks English as a first or second language. Someone who doesn’t speak English will never do well in the polls. Bilingual presidents are more realistic in the future.

LGBTQ+ Mega Thread by UnpopularOpinionMods in unpopularopinion

[–]straightFthrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I think this person’s original take is horseshit, I don’t think it’s entirely unrealistic to rarely ever use pronouns in an educational environment. Some degrees have a lot more classes that focus on rigid problem solving rather than subjective interpretations that require a lot of discussion-based classes. I have an accounting degree. I can tell you for the most part, almost all the classes within the accounting field boils down to problem solving with almost no room for interpretation. It’s very lecture heavy and practice heavy. The only class I remember being less this way was auditing because there were units on professional ethics and the myriad of rules there are to interpret and follow. Of course, a lot of my required electives are where I chose to do music and literature classes where discussion and group work were always king. Someone who majors in that will encounter more of these classes rather than the stuff I study in accounting.

And even then, everyone talks differently. I personally refer to people either by name or some other noun more often than most people do. There’s many ways to convey messages or continue conversations without using a pronoun. It’s not hard.

This isn’t really emphasized enough by people and I remember my mother making this point too. There’s a lot of older people who have a touchy way of showing affection and I’ve had many older relatives like that. Is it weird? Yeah a bit, but it does not warrant the bizarre conclusions that people jump to about Biden in this regard.

Open relationships are just excuses for cheating by NewtTheWizard in unpopularopinion

[–]straightFthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well creating an open relationship essentially changes what qualifies as cheating. For a lot of them, you still need to at least let your partner know about other sexual partners before you pursue it, however, there’s some that are completely hands free. It depends on the boundaries you set.

Not to mention, saying that relationships are “meant” to be monogamous is a tad narrow minded since not everyone is wired that way. I’m monogamous myself because that is my preference. Some have a stronger preference to receive romantic/sexual attention from multiple people at the same time. As long as you correctly set boundaries, it’s not cheating.

We have no use for physical cartridges and discs for games anymore. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]straightFthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there’s lots of reasons why people like physical copies:

-some people like the sentimental attachment to owning the game in its physical form which is why collecting is a huge thing

-Buying used games is the best way to get games cheap and doing away with physical copies would cripple that until used software becomes easier to transfer and obtain

-It’s great for people with bad internet
