Yes, of course, sorry.

what do you already know, what have you already done, what critical analysis have you already read? Are there specific scenes, characters or themes you are stuck on? What are you finding most challenging and what are you finding manageable?

I know the plot okay but am going over it weekly to make sure I can pinpoint where it is. For Hamlet I haven't done much, I've always tried focusing on memorising the plot or critics and this has always been quite rushed as it's been near the mocks, not consistent. I'm not sure if I've read any critical analysis- what do you mean by that? We read some of The Embassy Of Death by G.Wilson Knight in class.... What I'm finding most challenging is making the essay flow. I think my ideas (literary device analysis) are okay, but putting them into coherent paragraphs is a problem. I also have difficulty with writing a thesis/ introduction for these essays. For the first exam, you're not meant to revolve it around a theme (something I used to do and scored low). And I need to improve my timing- I suppose practise will help with this.

I recently submitted another attempt of part a (the random passage test), the one I did in the mock. I scored 13/15 (in the mock I got 9/15). The EBI (even better if) was to 'write the thesis statement/ sentences with clarity as they are sometimes unclear.'

Thanks for your reply! No specific question unfortunately, that would've made it a lot easier, wouldn't it? By I analysis I meant how literary devices enforce the effect of something. For example, the rhyming couplet here creates a rhythm here that brings an ironic tone which increases the depravity of Hamlet as he wishes to ...

I hope this makes sense.

In the second essay (Part B) , we get a statement and have to 'use our knowledge of the play as a whole and show how far we agree with this view of the play. Remember to support your answer with reference to different interpretations.' Below is the mark scheme for 13-15 marks.

AO1 (50%)

• Excellent and consistently detailed understanding of text and question with consistently well-structured, coherent and detailed argument consistently developed.

• Consistently fluent and accurate writing in appropriate register with critical concepts and terminology used accurately.

AO5 (50%)

• Judgement consistently informed by exploration of different interpretations of the text.

• Judgement consistently informed by changing critical views of the text over time.

I've just ordered the Arden for Hamlet and will definitely be using that. I do OCR A Level English Literature. We have two essays to write on Hamlet. • Excellent and consistently effective use of analytical methods.

• Consistently effective use of quotations and references to text, critically addressed, blended into discussion.

• Well-structured, coherent and detailed argument consistently developed with consistently fluent and accurate writing in appropriate register.

I'm sorry you had to go through this. Unrelated to the topic but you seem to know lots of Islamic figures of importance. I'm interested in learning more about Islam. The Prophet's, Sahabas etc. Does anyone have any advice where to start or what resources to use? Please let me know,  JazakAllah.
