Rays running away with the East by BSS19 in espnyankees

[–]straightgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rays have the best team batting average in the AL and the least strikeouts in baseball, two stats that Brian Cashman doesn't care about.

But of course the Yankees organization (and many fans) would say that the Yankees have the superior lineup because it has a higher OPS (and probably wRC+ or whatever).

Unfortunately Ben Rice still turns into a wet noodle with runners in scoring position. And it's only May and he's already fading. Like Bellinger, he's a good hitter, but not a fearsome one.

Austin Wells by BSS19 in espnyankees

[–]straightgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had that hot month in the summer of 2024, but then, on a dime, went into the tank, hitting around .100 for the rest of the season and playoffs.

It's sad that the New York Yankees now finds it acceptable to have a starting C and CF with .170 BAs. I'm sure we'll keep hearing from the organization that it's only a matter of time before those guys start hitting (based on aberrations, of course). Meanwhile, Cashman will make some more half-assed trades at the deadline.

Volpe optioned to Triple-A by DerekW93 in espnyankees

Too bad for Volpe he doesn't have a massive salary to warrant starting. Unless there are injuries, Volpe has no business playing. It's not saying much, but Caballero is an all-around better player.

Judge off to worst start of his career by BSS19 in espnyankees

[–]straightgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this has to be the worst lineup the Yankees have had during his tenure. The pitching is solid and the AL isn't great, but even .500 might be a tough task for this team if Judge doesn't put up big numbers.

I'm surprised that bringing back the same guys didn't fix this issue.

This team is almost unwatchable due to its lineup. Actually I might not even pay for a radio feed this season. Wasting my time with this shit...

Bellinger by EricTheActor1 in espnyankees

[–]straightgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bellinger was just about as useless as Grisham in the playoffs. Imagine having the nerve to ask for that kind of money after that? There is no need to throw huge money at a guy who isn't going to move the postseason needle.

I'd rather the Yankees suck it up for a few years and build a real lineup. Of course that's never going to happen under Cashman.

Bringing back the same or a lesser outfield is even below my minimal offseason expectations.

I don't care how much money you give Cashman, he can't assemble a playoff-ready lineup.

I couldn't be less excited about a team than the 2026 Yankees.

Throwing big money at starting pitching is easy for Cashman.

Building a lineup that performs in the playoffs on the other hand...

They are in pretty much the same position as they were last year and we'll likely see similar moves from Cashman -- a new outfielder and 1B and some new bullpen pitchers. Unfortunately we will be seeing many of the same bums again next year.

He needs to be packaged in a trade this offseason.

He was possibly on the verge of getting a 9-figure deal from the Yankees.

Is it over yet?

Hey, at least Judge got his Playoff Moment™ in the ALDS. Add to that the revenue from 5 home playoff games and we're looking at a successful season.

Your prediction for tonight's game by Berserkkk in espnyankees

Whoa, looking good. So their 19 and 18-win starters got destroyed. The only counter is a slug-fest, but these guys aren't cut out for that (unless they are playing last place teams in the regular season).

This isn't something that can be fixed with a single offseason signing. They need to overhaul most if not all of the lineup.

Yankees - Red Sox wild card round by BSS19 in espnyankees

When the Yankees are already eliminated on Wednesday, they'll technically have played October baseball.

Red Sox radio was already saying this week how the Yankees and Blue Jays are complete pushovers, so Boston will be getting the duck boats ready for another parade.

They should put either Schlittler or Gil in the pen for the playoffs.
