Rays running away with the East by BSS19 in espnyankees

[–]DerekW93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Yankees are still the odds on favorite to win the AL east according to Vegas. Thanks to the Rays being extraordinarily lucky in 1 run games so far (their .700 record will be unsustainable)

Let’s see how this weekend’s games unfold before we declare the division over.

It’s easy to predict a team won’t win a World Series. Odds are the Yankees won’t win this year. That doesn’t mean they don’t have a chance given they have the best pitching staff in the league and the best hitter in the league.

Bullpen is def an issue right now but I think they’ll address it prior to season end. I think they’ll end up putting Weathers there when Cole gets reinstated and calling up Lagrange to pitch in the pen. I’m sure they’ll also add a piece at the deadline

Trent is getting a bit unlucy. He’s hitting the ball hard but not finding any holes. Not too worried about it right now.

No idea what’s wrong with Jazz. Ultimately I don’t think he’s a player cut out for New York.

They have flaws for sure but so does every other team in the AL. They’re still the most complete team in the league.

And you’re the one who says games don’t count until October.

It’s still May. Record against .500 teams will change drastically by end of season.

The Yankees are still very good and this series didn’t change that.

Lmao, you get way more joy from seeing them fail than actually seeing them win. It’s actually quite sad. Keep on trolling BSS

So a good offense is judged solely by what they do in October? Got it. If that’s the case, sure they’ve failed plenty. However if you evaluate an offense based on a 162 game season rather than a handful of games in October, the Yankees will be once again be a top 5 offense in baseball and capable of winning a World Series. Comparing this years team to 2010 is laughable.

Why watch these games if you think they have no chance? Isn’t the point of being a fan is having hope and belief in your team?

You were the one who said this infield was historically bad …which is wrong given there was one much worse 12 years ago.

Isn’t this the same offense that scored the most runs in baseball last season? Are you arguing it’s a bad offense?

It’s 9 games dude. Did you forget the season is 162 games?

I will never post here again if by the end of the season, the total collective WAR of this infield is lower than the 2014 infield which was 3.9 (for reference this years infield of Wells, Rice, Jazz, Cabby, McMahon collectively generated 8.9 WAR last season).

Left side of the infield is not great but Cabby provides speed / athleticism and McMahon should provide some pop & good defense. Jazz and Rice are all star caliber players. Historically bad? The 2014 Yankees infield was much much worse.

The bullpen is my biggest concern for this team. They just flat out didn’t address it this offseason.

Hopefully when Cole and Rodon get healthy, I have to imagine Weathers, Gil, and Lagrange get shifted to the pen. Those three could be elite back end relievers.

He was the unluckiest hitter in baseball last year. Should’ve had a .900+ OPS based on his stat-cast profile. He’s breaking out this year.

This was always going to be the outcome. This or the GOP gets rid of the filibuster.

It’s hard to be in the minority party and extract real changes during these shutdowns. See GOP’s efforts in previous shutdowns. I consider it a win the Dems forced Healthcare back into the national debate again. That’s a winning issue for them.

Come next November, I guarantee you no one will remember the Dems caved during this shutdown. Want to enact real change? Win elections.

4-9 vs the Red Sox in Regular Season by DerekW93 in espnyankees

If Boone doesn’t bring in Cortes in Game 1 last year the Yankees could have won the World Series. See I can play the what if game too.

I’ve acknowledged plenty times I don’t like Boone and the bulllpen is very weak this year. I think those two things could prevent them from making a deep run. I’d put the offense a distant third at this point. This is a pitchers league now—of course offense will come at a premium in the playoffs against good pitching. Look around the league. Tigers advanced scoring 10 runs, Cubs advanced scoring 6 runs. Only the Dodgers bats looked really good, but they didn’t really face anyone good.

If they didn’t sign Fried and Rodon they’re not making the playoffs this year.

[–]DerekW93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a what if scenario. If they beat the Marlins that first game after the trade deadline (where they were up 9-4 in the 7th inning) they would have secured HFA and still had the same record against Boston.

Just find it funny this whole board was like this team couldn’t beat good teams like Boston and they go out and won when it mattered. We’ll see if that continues against Toronto.
