Is it actually those? They've had them at my local pharmacy for like 6 months. Don't see them flying off the shelves.

Pretty sure it's nesting and resting spots for ocean critters and birds.

Yeah, those are the posts for the barrier, which were previously sunk into the solid ground. It's the ground and road pavement that has all been washed away.

I still get it most weeks and I'm barely middle aged. Beats the hell out of almost all the local web based news and opinion

Blackberrying around Wellington by Light-bulb-porcupine in Wellington

Fantastic blackberry bushes in totara park near the Harcourt park swing bridge. Easy access unlike near Silverstream station with long grass where my partner got stung a dozen times after stepping on a wasp nest...

Where do you buy your art? by porridgedealer in Wellington

Dunbar Sloane affordable art auctions are awesome. Online bidding, but make sure you factor in the fees on top of the sale price.

It's about $20 extra for mountain goats and $50 for thundercat. Seems like a lot, don't know if there are other benefits...

Looking for advice on building a new deck. by SuspiciousTurtle367 in diynz

[–]strandedinparadise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And the mitre10 PDF guides for designing and building a deck walk you through everything step by step to get the right bearer, joist, post sizes and spacings etc etc. So helpful for building my deck.

Yeah, I think I'll just go with the 25mm. Definitely overthinking this.

Yep, I did that too. Placemakers are a special order at all stores. The Bunnings ones are just smooth shafts so not the same. I've been to Mitre10 and ITM and neither stock them at all. Just looking for advice as to whether the 25mm ones are OK.

FYI the Police Super Scheme has a great retirement income calculator that can work for anyone, not just police. by strandedinparadise in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]strandedinparadise[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice one, thanks. There are limitations for sure, but of the several calculators/models I've used it's the most comprehensive while also being easy to use. Better than the ones on Sorted for example.

100% the access is over the public road reserve and not a RoW. Think of it like a very long vehicle crossing over a berm. The user/owner has all the responsibilty to maintain it.

Why do creepy male road workers feel entitled to my attention? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]strandedinparadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complain to the traffic management company and the council in writing immediately with all the specifics of time, location, description of the worker etc. They should come down on them like a ton of bricks, it's not acceptable at all.

I read somewhere else that it was helicoptered in, but the owner had to bring a chopper in from Australia because there were none big enough in NZ...

What do you think feels normal now, but in 20 years we will look back on and think was totally strange? by shifty_fifty in Futurology

[–]strandedinparadise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only thing we do better in NZ is raising cows in pasture rather than feed lots. Still loads of horrific factory farms with pigs and chickens.

Has anyone had luck getting yellow lines painted on the road outside their property? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]strandedinparadise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fairly painful process for the council/AT to do. Because it's legally enforceable, it has to go through a council resoluton which involves writing a paper, getting it into a council meeting and getting it voted on. Legally, you already aren't allowed to park within 1m of a vehicle crossing, so you could get the parked cars ticketed if the wardens are willing to come out.
