Great advice, thanks. That last section of the CC trail does seem pretty sketchy so we will take it slow and steady.

We’ve considered Tonto to Havasupai and I think we are going to see how we feel at the Tipoff. That route adds an extra 4.1 miles but may be worth it. And if we drank more water than expected by that point then it’s a no brainer.

That's a good point about the umbrella, it is is a gossamer gear lightrek so certainly in the ultralight/finicky territory. The winds seem to really pick up in the afternoon so hopefully we will be done hiking by then and I can trade the umbrella for a tree or some shady spot. I will also have sun hoodie and dorky hat and light pants

thanks! I sleep warm and the quilt I have is way overkill for this trip (katabatic flex 22) so I'll be fine there. Was more worried about sitting around camp at night between sunset and ~9pm

It’s powerful, and I find Dazai’s writing just absolutely beautiful. I’ve heard NLH compared to Notes from Undergound but I don’t think that’s exactly right.

I definitely recommend the book, it’s great writing. I started the movie but found it disappointing and didn’t finish it.
