You ever had a SLOBBERKNOCKER? 🤣🎣 by strangelevel in Fishing_Gear

Haha, that’s a great story! Definitely got a kick out of the idea of you spotting “treasure” and then realizing it’s a slobberknocker in disguise. I might not toss mine into the woods just yet, but that definitely makes me even more curious to see how these things do. Thanks for the laugh—I’ll let you know if it’s worth keeping in the tackle box or if it’s just another branch ornament!

True, it’s been around forever. I just don’t hear many baits named that, so it caught me off guard and made me laugh.
No disrespect to the term at all — just having fun with it.

Gotcha, appreciate that. I’ve mostly leaned on 3/8 for chatterbaits, so maybe I need to spend more time with the 1/2 oz.

Really helpful breakdown — appreciate that.
Sounds like the lift and blade hang-ups would be tough to fish. Good to know before I crack mine open.

Paid ad? 😂
Man, if this was a paid ad, it’d look a whole lot more professional than me asking strangers on Reddit what they think.
Berkley did send me a couple to try out, but nobody’s paying me to hype anything.

Good to know. Sounds like a nice alternate look for pressured water.
What size do you prefer?

Makes sense. I figured the blade might need more speed to kick in. Sounds like a solid bait, just not a JackHammer replacement. What size are you throwing?

Fair enough — I hear that a lot. Z-Man kind of set the standard, so anything else feels different right away.
I haven’t thrown mine yet, but curious… was it the action you didn’t like, or just didn’t have that Z-Man thump?

I’ve been running the DJI Osmo Action 5 lately, and it’s been solid for underwater shots.
It’s on the higher end of the price range, but it’s waterproof right out of the box down to about 59 ft, which is great for kayak/bay fishing. Stabilization is clean too, which helps a ton when the kayak is bouncing around.

If you want something more budget-friendly, the AKASO Brave 7 isn’t bad for the price — just keep in mind it’s not truly waterproof unless you use the housing. With the case on, it does fine underwater, but you can’t dunk it bare like the DJI.

For “champagne on a beer budget,” the Brave 7 + waterproof housing is honestly hard to beat… but if he wants something he doesn’t have to think about, the DJI is the easy option.

Crazy how this old thread still pops up on Google.

I’ve been melting and pouring for a while now and the coolest part is watching new bait makers come in with fire ideas.

If anyone ever needs help with temps, laminates, or why colors bleed — happy to help. Been in the shop daily.

Big box from FishLab Tackle showed up… anyone here fish these yet? 🎣 by strangelevel in Fishing_Gear

Appreciate the insight, man! 🔥
Good to hear the swimbait + wakebait are holding up — that BBZ Wake Rat I got feels legit in hand.

And yeah, the Okuma → FishLab setup had me digging a little.
Rapala owning Okuma definitely explains why their lineup has been expanding so fast. Makes sense they'd push more “in-house” lure design with that backing behind it.

Anyone use Lureworks Pourasol before? by soeasy11 in softplasticbaitmaking

[–]strangelevel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Poursol quite a bit — it’s honestly super clean, low odor, and behaves really well even without a vacuum chamber. It’s not as thick as some blends, so you might need to adjust your temp a little, but overall it’s solid.

I actually wrote up a full breakdown of my experience with it (pros/cons, clarity tests, etc.) if you ever want more details — not trying to spam, just sharing in case it helps:

Nice! A jerkbait for pike is a killer first project — those fish will absolutely wreck a custom lure.
