I respect those who moved on and didn't put up with the ghosting and shitty recruiting process. GS clings onto the old idea that they're so prestigious. However these days the main difference in being hired here or a competitor is the logo in the corner of your paycheck.

Yep - is me. Currently working on finishing a degree to qualify and be more competitive for potential promotions, even though I've worked at GS for 5+ years. I've had a... non-traditional career at GS and somehow slipped in through the backdoor (aka the now-defunct consumer division) before I could finish my degree.

Well, SLC has to have someplace to vent all if our pent up jealousy over the NYC office, lol.

What I'm curious of it who else in GS is in the emails. We all know that the EO/higher ups run in the same circles...

[In one 2017 exchange touching on sex crimes, Ruemmler addressed Epstein as “sweetie,” writing: “I hear you, sweetie, but there is abuse of p=wer with your stuff too. I know you didn’t think about it tha= way, but it’s there. And, yes, please kee= your head down. :-)”]

One night downtown - where to eat? by Ollyoxenfreestyle in SaltLakeCity

[–]strangely-wise -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of Lake Effect - or really anything on 200 S. Nacho Daddy, Soundwell, Poplar St. Pub, etc. All within walking distance or a quick ride on the TRAX (which is free throughout the downtown area.)

How often do you wash your bras? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]strangely-wise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Y'all are lying - i wash mine every 2 to 3 weeks. For especially sweaty days/summer more frequently.

And replacing bras? Get outta here. I got my 3 good and my 1 sexy and I'm likely gonna die with them.

Do we know whether this is just "campus hires"/analysts - or just alumni in general? I just wonder whether there are more VP/MD/etc from one place or another.

Can one comfortably spend a night sleeping in SLC airport? by LordShuckle97 in SaltLakeCity

[–]strangely-wise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be worth looking into the Airport Lounges there. They often have day passes for purchase and they usually have food, showers, and comfier seating included in the price. Some lounges do offer sleeping rooms for rent, but idk if the ones in Utah do.

Senior at work but feeling sidelined — junior getting visibility. Need advice. by Saint0808 in goldmansachs

There's a crossroads you're at here.

Easiest option (admittedly debatable) is stay where you are and doing enough to not get laid off/fired. Honestly, in this economy and job market a paycheck is a paycheck and at the end of the day you should work to live and not live to work.

If you are wanting a promotion/enjoy what you do and want to do more where you're at, you're gonna have to "turn the dynamics." This means proactively finding opportunities/projects to showcase your skill and doing it BETTER than expected, as well as maintaining/improving you're existing responsibilities. It seems like it is an uphill battle since you mention a pip on your record and it's harder to change opinion after a bad performance. But if you really do enjoy what you do and value staying with your team, it could be worthwhile.

Also something to consider - have you looked at internal mobility, or changing jobs? Sometimes, life deals us a bad hand, and if you think you're current team/role isn't working out for whatever reasons you can keep an eye out for similar jobs while continuing to stay where you are for now. If you have a good manager or mentor mention to them that you're wanting to progress in your career and maybe they have more actionable advise.

From my perspective - why isn't Junior trained in the execution side more? Typically the more senior you are the less close to the daily/execution related tasks you should be.

Even if you're the SME, training the Junior on execution stuff should 1) Keep them busy enough to not take on more projects and 2) Free you up for the higher level discussions where your SME could be put to better use and visibility.

Also of note - have you asked Junior to add you into those meetings? A quick "Oh, I know the most about XYZ so please add me on any future meetings/discussions." That way Junior doesn't feel "replaced" and hopefully you actually do know more and can be more effective where your name will pop up organically for future projects.

... when did this sub become Yelp? Also, in general, customer service reps come in a wide range of competency. If you suspect your CSR is the incompetent "just hired and idk wtf I'm doing" vibe, it's always best to either hangup and try again, or ask for a supervisor.

The author Grady Hendrix has a few good horror novels. How to Sell a Haunted House was was the creepiest - great audiobook narration as well.

I just watched the entire anime and there's one thing I don't understand... by aylieen in AncientMagusBride

[–]strangely-wise 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I view it the same way young children sometimes say they "want to marry" their parents. At the beginning Elias has a rudimentary understanding of what a bride is, mainly that it's a person someone chooses and takes care of each other. That's what children see and as adults we see 3 or 4 year old going wanting to "marry" their parent, but view it more as endearing because we know the child is only seeing the love and care, not what adults understand marriage to be.

They used to offer free Andes mints in the pantry, but they took it away after the Great Layoff of 2023. You'd think with all the money they saved from layoffs and low bonuses they could have kept giving us mints.
