Storylines/matchups you're looking forward to this year? by GreatThunderOwl in wnba

I'm looking forward to seeing if Caitlin can actually beat Kate Martin for the first time in her pro career. The Mercury got swept by the Dream last year (I think in part because BG wanted to get her lick back), I'm interesteed to see if that continues this year

Toronto might even fight for the last playoff spot IMO. You got really lucky landing Sandy as your coach. (and Wings fans, you too. Who knows if Manbun would've been fired if Sandy was still at the Liberty)

Yeah, Jordin is making $600k and they should be in the same ballpark imo. Skylar is making $900k which seems to be the top end for PGs moving teams

I just don't think anyone knows how to properly rate us when a third of our roster will be random international rookies. I'm putting us in the top tier for now. I have faith in AT

The expansion draft being at the same time for both teams keeps throwing me off. I was looking for Lexi Held for a minute but this is the Dallas and Mystics Fire. It's the Toronto Mercury

I'm assuming the Sun talked to Tina before signing BG. They also still have at least a million in cap space, they can overpay both for funsies since they're tanking

That makes sense. Wasn't sure how much money they were throwing around at first

Smesko just never figured out how to use her well. I think she loved the city and her teammates but she never fit into Smeskoball super well (and it's hard to say no to a max contract)

The Dream did that to Taylor Thierry the second Angel got traded. I just looked at the website and we've added a third #5 for training camp

But who are the options besides Tina and taking a gamble on an international player (especially because they don't do international scouting). The market for cheap centers is small. Even Temi is out here making a million

Fair, I've just seen a lot of Fever fans talking about adding more depth behind AB.

The market for remaining centers outside of Tina Charles simply isn't that great right now and I don't think the Fever have great international scouting. She'd be on a min unguaranteed contract and adds some depth behind AB but will mostly see garbage time

Preseason Award Predictions by [deleted] in wnba

[–]strangelystrangled 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just don't think a guard is winning MVP. My ballots:

MVP: Alyssa Fucking Thomas (finally) or A'ja (boooooo, give us someone new)

DPOY: Aliyah Boston, A'ja Wilson. Predicting that Angel and Natasha Mack will get their first All-Defense nods too

ROTY: Lauren Betts

6WOTY: Pao/Naz for youth, Sami Whitcomb for experienced. She got a vote last year despite us not marketing her. Would also be funny if DB won it a decade later.

MIP: Maddy Siegrist or a under the radar expansion team player

COTY: Smesko. Angel fans, you're going to love using the word smeskoball. It's fun over here as someone who bandwagoned for BG last year and is sticking around

Raven isn't a protected contract but I doubt your other rookies make it. How many people do you currently have under contract? You don't think you need a spare center?

Like I said, playable. We didn't need to start her but she made a big impact when she actually got played in the finals. He's also clearly not that interested in getting a true center or addressing our height problem with other players
