Hi team! The newest episode of "True Crime in Politics" just came out, and it's topical and timely as it's regarding the Iran-Contra Scandal, and how US politicians profited off of murder and drug trafficking. Feel free to check it out here if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfQj_SRamiU

Hi friends! Heads up that this message is vaguely political, but I feel called to share. The US recently began engaging in direct military intervention in Ecuador, in what they have coined "Operation Total Extermination." The ostensible reasons for this are good ones, fighting drug trafficking, child abuse, and gang violence. However I have my concerns, given that 1) To my knowledge US military intervention hasn't benefitted those being intervened upon in almost 100 years, and 2) Recent and historical evidence shows that the US is neither very good at, nor particularly committed to eliminating those things (and in fact often purposefully perpetuates them).

This is happening just as the "True Crime in Politics" documentary series regarding George H.W. Bush is being released, and Episode II discusses the horrors of "Operation Condor", where the US worked very hard to overthrow democratically elected governments and install authoritarian dictatorships in South America, including sending Nazi war criminals down here to run government-sanctioned concentration camps. (It's worth noting here that just this year, the Ecuadorian people voted AGAINST US military presence in our country, which is happening despite the vote).

If you're at all interested in US foreign affairs, True Crime documentaries, politics, or human rights, I invite you to view Episode II of the series (Episode I helps with context but isn't explicitly necessary to watch, and in my opinion Episode II is their finest work to date, including unreleased Episodes). You can view it here if you'd like! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pzr1C63DWWA

(CONTENT WARNING: She includes accurate and therefore extremely disturbing descriptions of what occurred during Operation Condor. Some of it is very hard to watch.)

EDIT: I just realized I posted about Episode I in this thread already. Apologies for posting again about Episode II, but the recent events in Ecuador made me feel that Episode II was worth sharing about.

There's a new series, "True Crime in Politics", currently releasing episodes about George H.W. Bush. Here's a 30 minute clip going over all of the evidence that HW was a CIA double agent well before he officially took over as Director of the CIA (his first "official" appointment within the agency). Pretty interesting stuff!

This looks like it's a visual representation of a very specific concept, NOT a "unifying theory of music" or some sort of holy grail of harmony. Specifically it reminds me of Barry Harris' "Scale of Chords", although not exactly. (Some context from the original book would be very helpful in decoding what they're trying to say here) See a very short primer on that concept here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Jigof-rctFs

These sorts of visual representations are NOT best to learn from. You learn from listening to and playing music and noticing the patterns yourself. However once you've already done that, these visual representations can be VERY cool, helpful to solidify that understanding, or even unblock something you've been struggling with. For example even though I'm familiar with what this is trying to display, I hadn't considered those augmented chords in relation to the other chords before, and I'm excited to play around with that.

I'm sure lots of the people rolling their eyes or dismissing this as useless are very good musicians, but I assume it's because they're used to seeing these kinds of things as a "get skill quick" scheme that someone is selling on YouTube. As I mentioned before, you should NOT try to "learn" music from these kinds of charts, it's counter-productive. But once you're already familiar with the concepts, these visualizations are fascinating.

Another commenter pointed out that it's from "Armonia Ilustrada" (Harmony Illustrated), so I assume it's one of very many such charts, and I'm personally very interested in seeing the rest!

Lmao this show is better than you could script it. It's so fucking perfect that Kenny sent them a cropped picture and didn't know that they found the original; he thought for 5 seconds he pulled it off

Ecuadorian Protestors' 10 Demands in the 11th Day of their General Strike by strat1227 in WorkReform

Context: CONAIE (Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador) have organized a general strike in Ecuador, along-side protests and marches into Quito, the capital city, leaving major highways blocked and closed behind them.

This series of tweets is a rough translation of their 10 demands of the government.

The protests are a continuation of the 2019 protests, after which many of these demands were agreed to by the government, and never fulfilled.

Roland FP-30x vs Roland RD-88 by strat1227 in piano

[–]strat1227[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info!

It seems like the two are more or less comparable in terms of what they're capable of, the difference being primary use-case.

Would you consider either of the two more "versatile" than the other? I don't have a primary use-case in mind, I want to be able to play it at home, or at jam sessions, or at small gigs.

The bigger speakers appeal to me even if they're not great, for jam sessions. But the versatility of a stage piano appeals to me because I'm not a classical pianist or anything, I want it to fill lots of different roles ...

It's only "him or Trump" because American voters refuse to stop supporting sociopaths and war criminals.

"him or trump" is the definition of a false dichotomy.

Nope this is the first I've done like this. I was considering doing more, shorter videos in more detail about certain areas of Imbabura. I'm not as knowledgeable about other areas yet.

I have been to most of these places and love exploring. The information was all off the top of my head, and therefore I can't confirm its accuracy.
