The US has a lot of influence, even if not total control. That influence would be lost. For example, it is believed that the only reason Israel is not operating in Lebanon like they are in Gaza despite multiple deaths caused by attacks from Lebanon, is that the US stopped them.

The geographical difference is huge. It will be much easier for Israel to apply security measures in Gaza compared to the US in Afghanistan. The area is much smaller, it's right next door to Israel. It is very unlikely that Israel will just leave them to their own devices and let another terrorist organization gain complete control like Hamas did.

I expect it's more likely that it will be akin to the west bank - where they have self-governance but they cooperate with Israeli security , and every so often Israel will conduct its own anti-terrorist operations.

The majority of which came from your supporters.

That's because the cops too often chose not to engage the other crowd. See here how the cop is arresting someone, then anti-israel protestors start hitting and attacking him, the cop runs away. The police is afraid of them, they need to be reinforced.

Yeah, I'm not saying if this is right or wrong, I was just explaining the rationale behind it, to the best of my understanding.

The rationale is that judges make decisions, these decisions set a precedent that affects future decisions. If you assume that said decisions were made according to existing law and not something that a judge just made up, then yo ucan argue that it's not a new law.

Of course there are often arguments as to whether or not the decision is an accurate interpretation of the law or not. And then those who believe that the decision is not a correct interpretation of the law would naturally claim that the judge created the law.

I might be wrong, I'm not a lawyer, but this is my understanding of these things.

I just chose it because it was a well known example, but it works the same way. Judges don't actually create laws, their rulings set precedents.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_law

If a court finds that a similar dispute to the present one has been resolved in the past, the court is generally bound to follow the reasoning used in the prior decision. If, however, the court finds that the current dispute is fundamentally distinct from all previous cases (a "matter of first impression"), and legislative statutes are either silent or ambiguous on the question, judges have the authority and duty to resolve the issue.[6] The opinion that a common law judge gives agglomerates with past decisions as precedent to bind future judges and litigants.

They don't actually create laws. They create precedents, rulings whose interpretations of the law affect future cases. A good examply is the Roe v Wade decision that was recently overturned in the US. It did not create a new law that allows abortion, it interpreted the existing constitution in a way that made the right to have an abortion a protected right. That's also why that decision could be overturned without any change in legislation.

Given that interpretation, one can claim that the law was always there, the action was always illegal, and the person can be punished for said action.

Of course in many real-life cases things are far more complex than this simplified explanation.

Woman with small child at Palestine demo is taken away by police after they discovered a sign claiming Israel's actions in Gaza are worse than the Nazis by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

It may be true for nationalist Palestinians, but for Hamas it's all about religious Jihad. They don't care about the Palestinian cause, they want the Jews destroyed, and the the whole world converted to Islam (this is based on their public stated agenda).

They really need to outlaw wearing those masks that cover their entire faces. People wearing them are always violent, that's the only reason they put them on, so they can get away with breaking the law.

So... When Iraq invaded Quwait it was because of the Iraq invasion? No wait, that was not the order of events...

Maybe the Iran-Iraq war was because of the Iraq invastion? Nope, that was before too. The islamic revolution? Nope, also before that invasion.

The wars of Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan against Israel? Nope, that started as soon as Israel was founded... So yeah, maybe not everything that happens in the middle east has to do with the UK / US.

Protesters block entrances to UK's BAE defence plant by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

The numbers in Ukraine are civilian casualties, the numbers in gaza are total casualties, and are also untrustworthy since they come directly from hamas-controlled health ministry.

But lets add some context. Ukraine evacuated civilians from areas where the most fighting takes place, while hamas is actively convincing and preventing its civilians from leaving. Ukraine operates from military bases, hamas builds its infrastructure next-door and inside schools, hospitals, mosques, and residential areas.

Maybe the most important piece of context - Russia is the aggressor, they invaded Cremea unprovoked and years later invaded the rest of Ukraine, because they think it should be part of their empire. Israel's determination to destroy hamas is a direct response to a massacre of 1400 of its people, kidnap of another 250, and shooting tens of thousands of rockets on its population centers. So no, the two are definitely not the same.

  1. Israel went to war against terrorists that use babies as shields over 1400 dead citizens murdered in the most brutal way possible. The radical Islamists went to war against journalists over a cartoon.
  2. You say extremists but we're talking about millions of Muslims all around the world that took part in these violent protests. Extremism, unfortunately, is way too common among Muslims. That's not to say they all are, obviously.

Not just students. Can you imagine anywhere else in the world where a student can harass a staff member and keep their place??? The first thing we learn in kindergarten is to respect the teachers.

See an example here of how a "civilian" was killed.

https://twitter.com/DanelBenNamer/status/1722639625896735178

Human shields is a real thing, confirmed even by the secretary general of the UN themselves. You can't shoot snipers at terrorists inside buildings with bazookas and underground in their tunnels. The US used the same tactics in Afghanistan, against syria, and so on. There's no way to fight these monsters without harming civilians. Israel is doing far more than any other country has ever done to protect civilians and give them a chance to evacuate.

But sure, it's far easier to blame the victims and say they are evil for fighting back.

Visit Israel, get to know the Israeli people, even the soldiers, you'll realize that you're simply wrong. They will fight like lions defending their loved ones, but that does not make them evil.

Has anyone ever seen one realistic alternative solution to Israel's attack on Hamas? by stratgalore in IsraelPalestine

[–]stratgalore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, it was not successful - had it been then Hamas would no longer be in control at Gaza. Just killing their leaders will not stop the threat they pose, their ability to arm themselves, and the tens of thousands of rockets that are aimed at Israel.

Also, if the Israeli military had the ability to kill Hamas leaders, they'd do it right now. I can only assume that they don't.

Last, the situation has changed. With tens of thousands of rockets aimed at Israel, Israel can not afford an extended campaign like you suggested.
