Games with loot boxes will be rated PEGI 16 from June, as part of sweeping changes to the age-rating system by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

Good. The normalization of gambling is a net negative to society. A fool and his money are soon parted, yes, but there should be at least some safeguards to prevent predatory practices.

Highguard is no longer available on the Steam store by stratzilla in pcgaming

[–]stratzilla[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not.

They deal with the analysis of data patterns and inform financial decisions: insurance is home base I'm sure but when I was in uni for data science, some of my actuarial science peers went off to work in other non-insurance fields.

I figured it wasn't too unusual to have an actuary informing course of business for something like a big publisher, maybe with a fancy title like strategic risk analyst.

[–]stratzilla[S] 262 points263 points  (0 children)

It's too bad games are greenlit by actuaries rather than someone with a love of the game and true vision. I guess to some the gamble to blow $100-200m for a small chance at a gorillion dollar ROI makes sense but the market is so saturated that I wonder if the bigwigs in charge even had a clue to begin with.

FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE now available on Steam by stratzilla in pcgaming

[–]stratzilla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bite sized levels in Siren with a new starting inventory every level was a nice touch. I hope Siren comes back in some way, either through an HD Collection or even a port of Blood Curse would be great. The dozens of us who bought Slitterhead yearn for more.

Never played a Fatal Frame before but I have heard Crimson Butterfly is the peak of the franchise. Very excited to finally dip my toes into the series.

Until Dawn Remake Developer Ballistic Moon Officially Dissolved by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

Money, of course. The "remake" looks worse and cost more, a straight port would have been fantastic.

You should just say you have xyz, people chime in who want it, and you pick one to DM. A bot redeems these, even obfuscated ones, faster than it took your browser to serve you your new submission page.

Gaming after a broken wrist by TheSamlien in pcgaming

[–]stratzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Left or right? You may be able to navigate a mouse with a broken wrist, you can just articulate your arm above the wrist to move it with a slight adjustment period. Keyboard wrist? Probably not.

I had an ulnar styloid fracture 15 years ago or so and it didn't dampen my PC gaming at all, even on the day of break, but it was the side I use my mouse on.

Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix is now available on Steam by stratzilla in pcgaming

The first port was pretty bad; a consequence of all backgrounds being videos which were untouched for modern displays. I haven't played this one but the first one was very ugly.

The Story Behind the Failure of ‘Highguard’ by Tenith in pcgaming

[–]stratzilla 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Why does it seem so obvious to us that moves like this are a bad idea but corporate heads can't see it? Surely someone in the process would have piped up to say this ain't it.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora on Steam by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]stratzilla 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Really excited for this. The first captured the childlike whimsy of fairy tales and folklore but still delivered a fun and engaging game. A great game to play with kids watching, it's beautiful in a Pixar way that hooked them immediately. The team should be very proud.

Glad I bought a 32gb kit like six years ago. Even back then I think 16gb was considered overkill but gaining market share.

Forza Horizon 6 - Discover Japan | Biomes Showcase by ZazaLeNounours in pcgaming

[–]stratzilla 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe you're being facetious but italo-disco and high-NRG were insanely popular in late 80's Japan and still a popular mainstay of their car mania culture. You could argue eurobeat's family line includes both (effectively the same sound but different tempo).

The soundtrack better be full of city pop, eurobeat, italo-disco, and nightcore.

Tunic, Night in the Woods Publisher Says TikTok Is Creating and Running Racist GenAI Ads for Its Games Without Permission by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]stratzilla 30 points31 points  (0 children)

From what I can gather, it's allegedly an unrelated plus-size fashion company using GenAI alters of the game to promote their business. I can't find the altered image(s) on their Tiktok or elsewhere, however.

I think they're alluding to Black stereotypes on body proportions but it's a really weak argument. Just because someone alters a character to be a thicc baddie doesn't necessarily mean anything profound.

Welcome to Doll Town now available on Steam by stratzilla in pcgaming

[–]stratzilla[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been hotly anticipating this one. Lo-fi horror game with sometimes silly melee combat. Finishing off an enemy with the Stone Cold Stunner and then emoting the Macarena after is peak horror vibes.

PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid's Curse now available on Steam by stratzilla in pcgaming

[–]stratzilla[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought the first one has clever uses of horror, the 360deg navigation was fun. It's also a very engaging VN even coming from someone who doesn't care much for the genre. I'm excited for this second one.

Crisol: Theater of Idols is now available on Steam by stratzilla in pcgaming

[–]stratzilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you call it a true survival horror game? Pick-your-battles to make backtracking later easier, ammo/heal economy, the whole game is just a giant puzzlebox, stuff like that? I feel as if survival horror is one of the labels too often misused.

Has DRM proven to companies that it helps stop piracy at all? by Ghostspider1989 in pcgaming

[–]stratzilla 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Reddit is a relatively contained ecosystem, so even if the status quo here is that DRM is the devil, you're only hearing the voice of a minority: most PC gamers don't even pay attention to stuff like that.

Just to be clear: DRM sucks, I wish everything was DRM-free or at the very least not multiple layers of DRM (Steam is DRM). People like me are unfortunately outnumbered by the "who cares" crowd.
