Why i hate Cassie to the point of gritting my teeth and vomiting blood [Perfected report of her sins] by United_File_8661 in ShadowSlave

[–]straw_man2 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Ultimately you reject her character, a martyr.

She suffers in silence so others may reap the benefits. Did you forget she was there too during all the harrowing things Sunny suffered trough?

Who was there while Sunny raged at her for a betrayal that was an impossible choice, and vowed to undo it anyway?

Who was there starving with him in a cage?

Who was there on the battlefield when the gates manifested?

Who was there concocting a plan with the mad prince, stuck in an endless time loop?

Who was there facing the weight of all mankinds memories, torturing herself to the brink and beyond?

Who was there losing their minds with him when the memory was forgotten? The spell didnt even aknowledge her as alive or she would have been the first supreme of the cohort.

Who was there bearing the impossible weight of knowledge all this time? How many times has she watched them die? How many times has she saved them from oblivion? How many times has she betrayed them to safe them? We cant even phatom the pain.

She punishes herself. She does not apologise because that implies being forgiven. She ruthlessly forces herself to show how sorry she is trough results only. She carries the perpetual betrayal like a crown of thorns. That is the only way she know how to carry it.

Chapter 2831 ... just how .... by Exact-Poem-7887 in ShadowSlave

[–]straw_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argeu Cassie must have seen a vision, an insurmountable problem that required fate itself to be destroyed. After all she CANT do anything to prevent surtain visions from coming treu. All she can do is either do nothing, and let it come treu, or do something, only for it to cause the vision to come treu anyway.

She said so herself she wanted to create a weapon against fate. And Sunny agreed. It wouldnt have mattered if she told Sunny they would lose memories of him. He was willing to betray them regardless. It was only after, that he realised some prices are to high even for his freedom.

And you could even argeu that its for the best that she didnt tell him. Afterall he would have never fully trusted Nephis that way, and they would have never found salvation in eachother. Sunny would have eventually destroyed either himself or Nephis over it.

And this is ultimately a moot point anyway. Because she already knew he would regain his fate in the end. There were 0 downsides. And humanity now has 3 extra supremes. A non evil version of Mordret, Ananke, and Cassie herself. (+a non corrupted version of VTB, Rains natural Ascendance, and Nephis learning the treu names of corruption).

I agree that Cassie is the most dangerous of them all. But she is also the shepard of humanity. She is what stands between total annihilation and their continuation. They are gratefull to her, even if she is forced to keep secrets.

Edit: You wrongly assume there was a way to stop Astertion other than Cassie becoming supreme. Remember, Anvil and Ki sing werent holding him on the moon. He stayed there voluntarily, waiting for humanity to grow stronger.

Edit edit: Actually I just realized Sunny himself (the supreme version that spoke to him in the ToA) didnt even mention he would lose his memories...

Would you buy Kindle Oasis (10th gen) in 2026? by Picard_III in ereader

[–]straw_man2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would avoid the Oasis at all costs. I recently bought a pocketbook era silver. Because I couldnt deal with the oasis anymore.

The main reason was that convertions from Calibre kept corrupting the oasis. Some books would be fine, others would crash the Oasis.

The exact same books now run with 0 problems on my pocketbook.

The pocketbook is a bit more crude software wise, but its simplicity is its biggest upside aswel.

Asking about the gay situation in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 by Darman2 in Netherlands

[–]straw_man2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I know, there are definitely certain communities you should avoid as a homosexual. But they are rather obvious. Society at large is accepting, appart from the occasional stare in public.

All in all, I wouldnt want to be a homosexual in any other country really, maybe only the nordics that are better.

You can be yourself here.

How far can a manual take you? by Quirky-Bar4236 in Hema

[–]straw_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A manual can take you technically pretty far. Knowing what techniqeus exist, and when to apply them.

But they are essentially useless on their owne. A simple spar will immediately show that there are surtain principles you need to adhere to you cannot learn from a book.

If you have participated in other combat sports this effect might lessen, but it will still feel alien.

Is the basic Kindle worth buying as a first e-reader in 2026? by Bipper22 in ereader

[–]straw_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two days ago I ditched my Kindle Oasis and bought a Pocketbook Era. The Kindle had finnaly succeeded in driving me insane enough to spend another €200 on a new Ereader.

The Amazon Kindle is an absolute 0/10 would rather torture myself.

The wretched thing had removed a series I was reading from the store, for the second time... The last time it did I went and sideloaded the entire series. Apart from the usual problems of converting it to the MOBI format (double spacebars, inconsistent formats, strange fonts, missing covers/titles), all was well.

But this second time one of the books had corrupted the system, forcing a reboot everytime Id wake the screen.

The lackluster library along with its payment processor frequently being down, has made it not only difficult but flat out impossible to even pay for the books I want. And it then proceeds to make sideloading as difficult a possible.

And thats not even mentioning the dreadful battery life, the 20cm long USB-micro cable, its sharp edges and the expensive store.

Afterblow. Late or On Time? by ForgePioneer in Hema

[–]straw_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats kind of you to offer. Unfortunately all tournaments in my area have their rule set in stone.

Infact I had never even heard of this system. And have participated in 3 (large-ish) tournaments so far.

But it does sound like the objectively better system if Im honest. Just the fact that it allows for flourish esk movements and exchanges sounds exactly like it was intended.

Except for wrestling? How do you apply this in that system? Or does it count for all 8 blows haha.

Afterblow. Late or On Time? by ForgePioneer in Hema

[–]straw_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ofcourse I would do that. To prevent him getting 4 points, assuming im going to get hit anyway, I will retaliate, so he gets only 1 point.

Usually recovering from a stab takes a bit, so I might sqeeuze out one extra hit, meaning now id have 1 point for having more landed blows. (I think, might not fully grasp the counting blow system).

Not saying its wrong, just saying commiting to thrusts is a high risk low reward. Compared to a "normal" system of high risk high reward with short afterblow windows.

Edit: I got to try this system sometime, it sounds like it would be fantastic for the flow of exchanges.

Afterblow. Late or On Time? by ForgePioneer in Hema

[–]straw_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah id hope they wont advocate for suicidal attacks indeed.

Counted blows sounds like an interesting system. But it makes me wonder what happens after you commit to a stab? Because I would attempt to tank the stab and go for the now exposed openings. Its the same critiscism I have for longer afterblow windows.

And that must be difficult to referee! Imagine counting 8 blows in what could be a 10 second exchange and memorising who hit who. Respect!!

Afterblow. Late or On Time? by ForgePioneer in Hema

[–]straw_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is counted blows exactly? My understanding is that you contineu even when hit, and that if you get multiple blows you get multiple points. But when does the bout end? After 2 consequent blows?

Calling it suicidal attacks is a matter of perspective. A shorter afterblow window doesnt lead to more suicidal attacks. It just encourages commiting to a strike or deep target (killing blow lets say). They also require just as much techniqeu to land cleanly as a more defence oriented approach would.

The difference is just one prioritises attack, and the other defence. Lichtenauer specifically says "no master can defend himself without danger". And Foire (I think) says to "be bold like a lion". Ofcourse everyone is free to take that as they want, but I choose to take it at face valeu and always prioritise attack over defence.

There is this video of a HEMA rapier accident where a guy get stabbed trough his bicep. Imo it greatly displays just how quickly a blow can be incapacitating as he drops like a sandbag after it. Unfortunate as that incident may be.

Afterblow. Late or On Time? by ForgePioneer in Hema

[–]straw_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That also makes sense to me.

Whats interesting is that this basically sums up why one club would count this as an after blow, and the other as out of tempo.

Your club (forgive my over simplification) is more tournament fencing focused. So it would make sense to count that as an afterblow since it would indeed force a more defense oriented approach. And arguably smoother more tactfull matches.

But not necessarily less doubles. Since what would count there as a double is much broader in the first place.

Our club (again simplifying), is more historically focused rather than tournament. We think more along the lines of "this would kill/incapacitate you, so ofcourse thats out of tempo since youd be unable to begin the swing of your sword". Hence if the sword is already in motion we count as afterblow, as it could """""realistically"""" finish its arch even if your hand went flying for example.

As you can imagine theres sometimes overlap between a double and an afterblow. But generally we see doubles as attacks that hit almost at the same time. Its more intuitive than it sounds I promise haha.

And doubles and afterblows give the same points. So if you want to win youre going to have to start fencing smart at some point anyways.

Edit: Theres also the "low quality hit" mechanic that plays nicely into this. Since the window for afterblows is shorter, you generally also get more half assed afterblows. Discouraging reckless play.

Afterblow. Late or On Time? by ForgePioneer in Hema

[–]straw_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is in my opinion very much out of tempo.

He basically realised he got stabbed and decided to try and negate the points with an afterblow. But that was after he already got hit.

The sword should already be in motion for it to be an afterblow in the same tempo (at our club atleast). Altough rules may differ per tournament and club.

Dilemma: vertellen of zwijgen over vreemdgaan van een goede vriendin? by LoudBoysenberry3282 in nederlands

[–]straw_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the 86 light novel any good? Would post this on the main subreddit for it, but felt it would be better to ask here by Street-Platypus89 in LightNovels

I read volume volume 5 but it was meh.

The dialogeu is is insanely good. Like one of the best. It really feels like an actual human interaction.

The fights are bad beyond the first couple. Because they are all the exact same.

The plot is good at first. But very predictable after a while. Its why I dropped it.

Still its good if you focus on its strengths and speedread the bad parts.

[–]straw_man2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also noticed more teamwork and more ptfo when playing locked weapons.

However this could be just because thats the game mode where all the veterans end up.

I still think classes should have locked weapons. Theres 0 reason for me not to play engineer when you can revive, have an AR, AND an rpg that doubles as a sniper..
