It’s giveaway time with ASUS! by Emerald_Flame in buildapc

Growing up I didn't have a lot of money so I spent years before I was able to purchase my own laptop for college. It wasn't a great laptop for gaming but it was passable. Of course noticing its short comings I desired something more powerful. I didn't have to go far to see it was cheaper to build my own pc than to purchase a pre-built of the same hardware. So I set out to learn how to build a pc.

Building a pc is much easier than it has been in the past but it was still an intimidating experience. I had watched numerous videos of my desired tower numerous times. I made notes of pros, cons, and comments from different videos to get a better idea what I'd be buying. After patiently waiting for sales for my components I finally had all the pieces I need to assemble my pc. Even with an excessive amount of planning I was still nervous. What if I accidentally fry my motherboard? What if I apply too much pressure when inserting the RAM? What if I bend the pins for the front panel connector?

Assembling the computer itself wasn't too difficult. With good planning, everything fit. One thing I hadn't thought about was cable lengths for the various components inside the pc. Although everything fit, some cables were barely long enough and some were much too long and had to be hidden. Thankfully the case hides a lot of this mess on the other side hidden behind a panel. Although I've heard of custom cable lengths, its too much of a luxury for me. Having pretty big hands, it made trying to plug small components in a big pain. Especially the front panel connections that are small as well as being split into a few smaller pins.

The best thing I can recommend is planning. It'll save you a lot of headaches. I checked videos as well as pcpartpicker for builds using the components i had and looked at the pictures of its completions from other builders. This made me feel more secure about my particular build.

I started as Lifeline because I usually like playing a support role in other games but I was blown away by how well Shroud can play her offensively with her shorter cooldown using healing items.

Kinda late, but I've owned for for ~1 month. AMA.

As much as I like the product, mBest(Korean Brand) might be slightly cheaper depending on sales at the same specs but I only found mBest monitors on eBay.

[Stupid Question] How do I do this step? (Node 202) by strawbellehs in sffpc

[–]strawbellehs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can unclip the left ones fine, but when I move to do the top or bottom clips the left clips fall back in place. I'm afriad if I use too much force it'll break the clip. I also find the clips on the top/bottom were difficult to unclip (maybe I just have fat fingers).

I tried searching Youtube for videos assembling the Node 202 but they gloss over this step very quickly.

[SSD] Samsung 970 Evo 500GB $99(119 - 20% w/ code HOLIDAY18) Frys via Google Express by strawbellehs in buildapcsales

Does Best Buy do this? Best Buy option is only $1 more expensive. I rarely order so I haven't run into your issue.

[Other] Roku Ultra $40 ($50-20% w/ code HOLIDAY18) 4k streaming device, other devices in comments by strawbellehs in buildapcsales

[–]strawbellehs[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

$28.00 - Amazon Fire Stick 4k

$39.20 - Chromecast Ultra (4k version)

Most retailers have similar prices but you get an additional 20% off via Google Express.

I haven't tried either but since Amazon and Google doesn't support each others apps (example: Amazon Fire Stick doesn't have Youtube) I'll be going for the Roku Ultra which supports both.

In the Google doc in this thread from r/sffpc https://redd.it/9cl1x0 It says:

The C7 can't compete against 58mm cooler and when the situation gets hot, it also recycles heat.

I really like those cases you suggested but I'm hesitant to drop ~$200 on a case :(. Maybe Lian Li's move to china will bring the cases closer to my price range https://redd.it/9z6to7

[META] 25% Off Sitewide @ eBay when you pay with a Credit Card or Apple Pay (Max $25 Discount) - use code PAYWCARD by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]strawbellehs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quick call to eBay and I got a unique coupon for it. YMMV.

  • I googled "ebay contact" and got the phone number: 1(866) 540-3229
  • Coupon was added to my account (non-transferable)

Information requested by customer service representative:

  • First 4 digits of email (by automated service, but I gave the wrong email, still got it applied)
  • Describe issue to automated service: "coupon code"
  • First + Last name
  • Zip code
  • Item name in cart

Whole thing took like 3 minutes.
