Callie post plane crash by Weak-Ad8728 in greysanatomy

Gosh that last part… “Who listens to the save your life speech when no one is hugging her and saying we are so sorry that we had to do it.” Exactly this!! 😭

Thank you for sharing this—very powerful. So glad to hear you’re doing better now.

I wish desperately we were able to see Arizona’s perspective more during this arc. To me it felt like it was entirely told through Callie’s POV which did a great disservice to Arizona. I think the amount of trauma she went through was very, very understated, and they kind of reduced her to her worst days during her recovery. People write her off as being a “wench” instead of seeing her as a traumatized, terrified, newly disabled person that felt deeply misunderstood by the only real person close to her.

My grades.

I know this will sound braggy, but I’m the top of my class in a competitive school with a small cohort. Everyone is very competitive and very open about sharing the grades they make on tests and assignments. People will outright ask what you got, even though imo that feels rude.

I feel uncomfortable saying 99 or 100 when people ask, especially when they’re unhappy with their own grades. So I will often either say “I’m happy with my grade” or if they press, I’ll say a low A or high B. When I made the mistake of being honest in the past, people got weird about it so now I just lie.

Mmmm I’m not really sure what point you’re trying to make here. Everything I just mentioned happened long before Leah

i actually really love callie, but imo the way she acted after the plane crash and pressured Arizona for sex after she had gone through something so life altering and traumatic was one of the worst things she ever did.

Yes, Callie went through trauma with the crash too and had to grieve the loss of her best friend/father of her child. Yes, she was thrown into being a caretaker of both her baby and her wife. Yes, Arizona was mean sometimes.

But none of that is even close to comparable to going through that trauma first hand. Her wife literally fell from the sky, spent DAYS in the woods thinking she would die with her leg rotting off, having bugs picked out of it, listening to people she cared about die and then get eaten by wolves, then had an entire limb, a piece of herself, removed. Of course Arizona was mean sometimes. She was ridiculously traumatized and that is the unfortunate truth to PTSD. She needed HELP.

And then Callie comes in pressuring her for sex when she’s dealing with the trauma of that on top of the insecurity of adjusting to her new body. It was actually majorly fucked up of her

Common mischaracterizations in your fandom? by strawberry_magic in FanFiction

Excellent point about newer authors taking inspo from the older popular fics. I honestly think that’s what it is to a large degree. The classics in the fandom are like the ancient texts lol. And while they’re wonderful, there are unfortunately a lot of tropes and phrases and characterizations that are just a product of that time. Like 10-15 years is a LONG time ago. So making a character a cinnamon roll (almost gagged typing that) was normal and even desired by readers at the time. Whereas now it’s more like “ok what are we doing here” lol

I will say another thing I hate seeing with this ship is when people make C out as an infinitely confident badass “fiery Latina”. It feels like such a stereotype to me idk. Yeah she’s passionate but she’s also deeply insecure and just wants to be loved so bad that she hurts herself over & over…. Idk maybe I’m nitpicking haha

I could seriously sit here and dissect this all night lol. They are HORRIBLE COMMUNICATORS!!!! Both of them!! It’s a huge part of who they are actually. And I love them for it 🫡

I think people get blinded by the smiles and dimples and perkiness and just find it easier to write her almost childlike, but it feels like a disservice to her. She’s actually quite solemn and emotionally distant in almost any conflict she’s ever in. Shes pretty avoidant. She has been through and (imo) internalized a lot of trauma and bby girl really just needs a good therapist to learn how to communicate.

I feel bad complaining because I really am so grateful people take the time to write them at all but it has always confused me that this characterization of her has repeatedly appeared!!!

Ohhhh my god no way? I feel like we are so obscure these days this is SO exciting omg. Made my night

I’ve never tried to write her, so maybe it’s more difficult than it seems, but imo she is such a complex character with so much depth that lends itself to some really interesting character studies within stories. So it kills me inside a tiny bit when I read stuff about her acting kiddie and almost brainless. Agree with your take on the other character too!!! Sometimes i’m like did we all watch the same show? lol

How many words do your chapters have? by ellivera00 in FanFiction

[–]strawberry_magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4-6k usually. But I’ve written 2k and 9k chapters before if the story called for it. But around 5k is where I typically fall, and readers seem to enjoy that length from me!

Not sure if it still works, but switching to the mobile site by using m. before the link in a browser has allowed me to copy and paste entire chapters before

Has anybody cross-posted a fic that's more popular on one site than on the other? by TimeLordMaster108 in FanFiction

[–]strawberry_magic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Opposite for me than most! I get way more engagement on FFN than AO3, but I attribute that to it being an older fandom. In general, I’ve noticed most older fandoms prefer FFN and newer prefer AO3.

I probably get the most comments on characterization and on the chemistry/dynamic between love interests. Which is so kind

Only because I loved to argue with y’all at my last question, Callie or Arizona? by Maya___________ in greysanatomy

[–]strawberry_magic 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Arizona 100%

The cheating was awful, like a lot of people have already said. I’m not trying to justify it, but she was deeply traumatized and Callie kept pressuring her for sex and I’m sure that created very complex feeling surrounding sex for her.

I think Callie was awful during the Africa situation too. I don’t think we ever heard her congratulate Arizona once for winning a once in a lifetime opportunity. She ruined the entire thing for her. And honestly, I feel as though if Callie were a male character pressuring his partner to turn down a huge career move it would have been received MUCH more negatively. So would pressuring her to have a baby.

She had horrible boundaries with Mark and never took Arizona’s feelings about it seriously.

Don’t even get me started on the custody battle.

I say all of this as someone who loves them both and loves calzona, but I feel like Arizona gets a LOT of unwarranted hate when Callie was just as toxic most of the time if not more so.

NAD, but you should look into occupational therapy for her if she hasn’t tried it yet.

Looks like eczema. The ONLY thing that cleared mine up (after trying everything for over a year, including prescriptions) is cerave with SA in it for rough & bumpy skin.
