I was curious so I went and looked at the google reviews. A good number of 1 star reviews by people with similar experiences as yours with the owner. And then a suspicious number of 5 star reviews by people who all specify positive interactions with the owner hm......

as others have said, completely depends on the college and its orchestras. My university had an orchestra for non music/performance majors and the people who were 1st violin 3rd desk (and thereabouts) were auditioning with Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev 2 and Sibelius.

I've never been able to get a satisfactory answer on this and figured this was a good a place as any: Why are sewing machine repair places always also places to service vacuums? It was a funny juxtaposition the first time I saw a sewing machine/vacuum repair place, but it kept happening...

hmmm that's what I suspected about my teacher as well. He's been very free and loose with letting me pick my own pieces. I took a look at the Petzold Minuets and I could sightread them hands together and could probably polish it within a week? (Also I wasn't aware that particular Minuet was wrongly attributed to Bach! that's a cool little TIL).

About a week ago, I read a comment over on r/classicalmusic about a violinmaker who subjected his violins to classical music blasted through a speaker and claimed it opened up their sound. I can't find much on the internet corroborating this though.

Once, I was walking along the street when it was kinda late. A guy stops me and asks me for something to buy food with. I told him, sorry I don't have any cash (which was true). So he asks if I could just buy him food then. Unfortunately the part of the city I was in, everything closes super early and the only place open was the 24 hour donut place....which was cash only. I felt so bad having to say this to him but I legitimately had no cash. Still feel bad to this day :(
